Ode VII

Menaion — translated by Isaac Lambertsen

Rights-risk acceptedServed

¶1

Irmos: The divinely wise youths worshipped not a creation rather than the Creator, but, manfully trampling the threat of the fire underfoot, they rejoice, chanting: Blessed art Thou, the all-hymned God of our fathers!

¶2

The Theotokos: “Declaring the splendid tidings, the divine announcement, that the immaterial Light Who, in His great loving-kindness, is uniting Himself to a material body, thou criest to me: “Blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, O most pure one!’”

¶3

The Angel: “Rejoice, O Virgin Mistress! Rejoice, O all-pure one! Rejoice, O receptacle of God! Rejoice, O lamp-stand of the Light, restoration of Adam, deliverance of Eve, holy mountain, all-manifest sanctuary and bridal-chamber of immortality!”

¶4

The Theotokos: “My soul hath been cleansed, my body sanctified; I am wrought a temple fit to hold God, a divinely adorned tabernacle, a temple rendered animate through the visitation of the all-holy Spirit, and the pure Mother of the Life!”

¶5

The Angel: “I see thee now as a lamp of surpassing radiance, a bridal-chamber made by God, a golden ark. O Bride of God, receive the Giver of the law, Whose good pleasure it is to deliver corrupt human nature through thee!”
