Menaion — translated by Isaac Lambertsen

Rights-risk acceptedServed

¶1

Irmos: Seated in glory upon the throne of the Godhead, Jesus most divine hath come on a light cloud, and with His incorrupt arm hath saved those who cry: Glory to Thy power, O Christ!

¶2

Rejoice, O Mistress Hodegitria, wonder of wonders! Rejoice, joy of all, invincible Christian refuge for cities and towns amid tribulations, bulwark and victory against the foe.

¶3

Theotokion: Without knowing wedlock thou gavest birth to God the Word incarnate, O all-pure one, in manner past understanding and recounting. Wherefore, we glorify and bless thee as is meet and right, O Virgin.

¶4

Irmos: Beholding Thee lifted up upon the Cross, O Sun of righteousness, the Church stood rooted in place, crying out as is meet: Glory to Thy power, O Lord!

¶5

Rejoice, rejoice, thou boast of Orthodox kings! Thou art the protection of all the Christ-loving armies, O Queen! Rejoice, O Hodegitria, refuge and confirmation for us all!

¶6

Rejoice, speedy deliverance for all amid misfortunes! Rejoice, ready consolation for all who sorrow! Rejoice, O most hymned one! Rejoice, O most blessed Hodegitria, healer of all infirmities!

¶7

Rejoice, thou whose greatness all creation doth hasten to glorify as is meet, yet is unable so to do, O Hodegitria! It therefore crieth out to thee: Rejoice, O Mistress, dwelling-place inhabited by God!

¶8

Shining forth in the heights of the Church like never-fading stars, the apostles of the Benefactor have driven away the darkness of impiety and illumined the world.

¶9

Ministering with the grace of the Gospel, O all-blessed Prochorus, thou wast the excellent teacher and divine primate of Nicomedia, presiding over the flock of Christ.

¶10

Thou didst inherit divine honor, O blessed Nicanor, having been slaughtered like a lamb with two thousand who placed their trust in Christ, on the same day as the protomartyr Stephen.
