¶1

TONE 8

¶2

At the end of each of the eight Tones in the Paraklitiki there is a short set of doggerel lines describing the characteristics of the Tone in question. For the entertainment of readers I include equally doggerel translations of them at the beginning of each Tone.

¶3

**PLAGAL OF THE FOURTH**

¶4

Seal of the tones, O Plagal of the Fourth,

¶5

As bearing in yourself all fairest sounds.

¶6

You broaden out the ranges of the songs,

¶7

The final flourish of the Tones, and end.

¶8

As limit in both notes and voices’ pitch,

¶9

Limit of sound I call you twice, and end.
