Ode 8. Irmos.

Anastasis liturgical translations — translated by Ephrem Lash

Rights-risk acceptedServed

¶1

Accepting the blood of the wise Champions above incense, O Word, at their prayers save those who fall down before you in repentance, as you alone are merciful.

¶2

The Lord who came down and appeared to the Youths in the flame by divine power, you priests praise, you people highly exalt to all the ages.

¶3

Through laughter Ham became a slave by his father’s decision; what will you do, my soul, enslaved to the passions, with disordered laughter and without reverence for the heavenly Father?

¶4

Senselessly Cain the slayer of his brother became insane with rage; you have appeared like him, my soul, by slaying yourself, not some one else, with the pleasures and deceptions of life.

¶5

Of the Martyrs.

¶6

The chosen pearls of the Lord, the precious vessels, the shining lamps, godly ray of grace, the Champions of Christ, let us, assembled together, fittingly honour.

¶7

By excess of profligacy I have now drawn near to Hell; as you have exceeding compassion, O Maiden, for you gave birth ineffably to the compassionate God, take pity and save me.
