Job 8

1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:

ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Βαλδαδ ὁ Σαυχίτης λέγει

2'How long will you speak these things, And the breath of your mouth be filled with words?

μέχρι τίνος λαλήσεις ταῦτα πνεῦμα πολυρῆμον τοῦ στόματός σου

3Will the Lord do wrong when He judges, Or will He who made all things trouble righteousness?

μὴ ὁ κύριος ἀδικήσει κρίνων ἢ ὁ τὰ πάντα ποιήσας ταράξει τὸ δίκαιον

4If your sons sinned against Him, He sent them away because of their lawlessness.

εἰ οἱ υἱοί σου ἥμαρτον ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ ἀπέστειλεν ἐν χειρὶ ἀνομίας αὐτῶν

5But come early in the morning And make your supplication to the Lord Almighty.

σὺ δὲ ὄρθριζε πρὸς κύριον παντοκράτορα δεόμενος

6If you are pure and true, He will hear your supplication And restore to you the dwelling of the righteous.

εἰ καθαρὸς εἶ καὶ ἀληθινός δεήσεως ἐπακούσεταί σου ἀποκαταστήσει δέ σοι δίαιταν δικαιοσύνης

7Though your beginning shall be small, Your latter end will be abundantly great.

ἔσται οὖν τὰ μὲν πρῶτά σου ὀλίγα τὰ δὲ ἔσχατά σου ἀμύθητα

8For inquire about the former generation And search among the race of our fathers;

ἐπερώτησον γὰρ γενεὰν πρώτην ἐξιχνίασον δὲ κατὰ γένος πατέρων

9For we are of yesterday and know nothing, Because our life on earth is a shadow.

χθιζοὶ γάρ ἐσμεν καὶ οὐκ οἴδαμεν σκιὰ γάρ ἐστιν ἡμῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ὁ βίος

10Will they not teach you and proclaim to you, And bring forth words from their heart?

ἦ οὐχ οὗτοί σε διδάξουσιν καὶ ἀναγγελοῦσιν καὶ ἐκ καρδίας ἐξάξουσιν ῥήματα

11'Can the papyrus bloom without water, Or can the reeds flourish without moisture?

μὴ θάλλει πάπυρος ἄνευ ὕδατος ἢ ὑψωθήσεται βούτομον ἄνευ πότου

12While it is still on the root and not yet harvested, Does not any vegetation wither before it receives moisture?

ἔτι ὂν ἐπὶ ῥίζης καὶ οὐ μὴ θερισθῇ πρὸ τοῦ πιεῖν πᾶσα βοτάνη οὐχὶ ξηραίνεται

13So shall be the end of all who forget the Lord, For the hope of the ungodly shall perish.

οὕτως τοίνυν ἔσται τὰ ἔσχατα πάντων τῶν ἐπιλανθανομένων τοῦ κυρίου ἐλπὶς γὰρ ἀσεβοῦς ἀπολεῖται

14For his house shall be without inhabitants, And his tent shall turn out to be a spider's web.

ἀοίκητος γὰρ αὐτοῦ ἔσται ὁ οἶκος ἀράχνη δὲ αὐτοῦ ἀποβήσεται ἡ σκηνή

15If he props up his house, it will not stand, And when he takes hold of it, it will not endure.

ἐὰν ὑπερείσῃ τὴν οἰκίαν αὐτοῦ οὐ μὴ στῇ ἐπιλαβομένου δὲ αὐτοῦ οὐ μὴ ὑπομείνῃ

16For it is moist under the sun, And his branch shall come forth out of his rottenness.

ὑγρὸς γάρ ἐστιν ὑπὸ ἡλίου καὶ ἐκ σαπρίας αὐτοῦ ὁ ῥάδαμνος αὐτοῦ ἐξελεύσεται

17He shall lie down upon a pile of rocks And shall live in the midst of flints.

ἐπὶ συναγωγὴν λίθων κοιμᾶται ἐν δὲ μέσῳ χαλίκων ζήσεται

18If he is swallowed up, his place shall deny him. You have not seen such things,

ἐὰν καταπίῃ ὁ τόπος ψεύσεται αὐτόν οὐχ ἑόρακας τοιαῦτα

19'That such is the destruction of the ungodly, And out of the earth another will grow up again.

ὅτι καταστροφὴ ἀσεβοῦς τοιαύτη ἐκ δὲ γῆς ἄλλον ἀναβλαστήσει

20For the Lord will not cast off the innocent, Nor will He accept any gift of an ungodly man.

ὁ γὰρ κύριος οὐ μὴ ἀποποιήσηται τὸν ἄκακον πᾶν δὲ δῶρον ἀσεβοῦς οὐ δέξεται

21He will fill the mouth of the true with laughter And their lips with thanksgiving.

ἀληθινῶν δὲ στόμα ἐμπλήσει γέλωτος τὰ δὲ χείλη αὐτῶν ἐξομολογήσεως

22But their enemies will be clothed with shame, And the dwelling of an ungodly man will be no more.'

οἱ δὲ ἐχθροὶ αὐτῶν ἐνδύσονται αἰσχύνην δίαιτα δὲ ἀσεβοῦς οὐκ ἔσται
