Job 13

1'Behold, my eye has seen all these things, And my ear has heard them.

ἰδοὺ ταῦτα ἑώρακέν μου ὁ ὀφθαλμὸς καὶ ἀκήκοέν μου τὸ οὖς

2What you know, I also know; I am not of lesser understanding than you.

καὶ οἶδα ὅσα καὶ ὑμεῖς ἐπίστασθε καὶ οὐκ ἀσυνετώτερός εἰμι ὑμῶν

3Nevertheless I will speak to the Lord And will reason before Him if He wills.

οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλ᾿ ἐγὼ πρὸς κύριον λαλήσω ἐλέγξω δὲ ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ ἐὰν βούληται

4For you are all dishonest physicians and healers of diseases.

ὑμεῖς δέ ἐστε ἰατροὶ ἄδικοι καὶ ἰαταὶ κακῶν πάντες

5But would that you were silent, For it would lead you to wisdom.

εἴη δὲ ὑμῖν κωφεῦσαι καὶ ἀποβήσεται ὑμῖν εἰς σοφίαν

6Hear the conviction of my mouth And heed the judgment of my lips.

ἀκούσατε ἔλεγχον στόματός μου κρίσιν δὲ χειλέων μου προσέχετε

7Do you not speak before the Lord And utter deceit before Him?

πότερον οὐκ ἔναντι κυρίου λαλεῖτε ἔναντι δὲ αὐτοῦ φθέγγεσθε δόλον

8Will you draw back? But you yourselves be judges.

ἦ ὑποστελεῖσθε ὑμεῖς δὲ αὐτοὶ κριταὶ γένεσθε

9Would it be well for you if He searched you out? For if you make every effort to join yourselves to Him,

καλόν γε ἐὰν ἐξιχνιάσῃ ὑμᾶς εἰ γὰρ τὰ πάντα ποιοῦντες προστεθήσεσθε αὐτῷ

10He will surely rebuke you if you also secretly show favoritism.

οὐθὲν ἧττον ἐλέγξει ὑμᾶς εἰ δὲ καὶ κρυφῇ πρόσωπα θαυμάσετε

11Will not His terror make you dizzy And His fear fall upon you?

πότερον οὐχὶ δεινὰ αὐτοῦ στροβήσει ὑμᾶς φόβος δὲ παρ᾿ αὐτοῦ ἐπιπεσεῖται ὑμῖν

12In the end, your insolence will go away like ashes And your body like clay.

ἀποβήσεται δὲ ὑμῶν τὸ ἀγαυρίαμα ἴσα σποδῷ τὸ δὲ σῶμα πήλινον

13'Be silent, that I may speak And put my anger to rest,

κωφεύσατε ἵνα λαλήσω καὶ ἀναπαύσωμαι θυμοῦ

14So I may take my flesh in my teeth And put my life in my hand.

ἀναλαβὼν τὰς σάρκας μου τοῖς ὀδοῦσιν ψυχὴν δέ μου θήσω ἐν χειρί

15Though the Mighty One should lay His hand upon me, And already He has begun, I will speak and reason before Him.

ἐάν με χειρώσηται ὁ δυνάστης ἐπεὶ καὶ ἦρκται ἦ μὴν λαλήσω καὶ ἐλέγξω ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ

16This will turn for me into salvation, For there shall be no deceit before Him.

καὶ τοῦτό μοι ἀποβήσεται εἰς σωτηρίαν οὐ γὰρ ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ δόλος εἰσελεύσεται

17Listen, listen to my words, For I will report them in your hearing.

ἀκούσατε ἀκούσατε τὰ ῥήματά μου ἀναγγελῶ γὰρ ὑμῶν ἀκουόντων

18Behold, I am near my judgment: I know I shall appear righteous.

ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐγγύς εἰμι τοῦ κρίματός μου οἶδα ἐγὼ ὅτι δίκαιος ἀναφανοῦμαι

19Who is he who will judge me, That I should now be silent and be wanting?

τίς γάρ ἐστιν ὁ κριθησόμενός μοι ὅτι νῦν κωφεύσω καὶ ἐκλείψω

20'Grant me two things, Then I will not hide my face from You:

δυεῖν δέ μοι χρήσῃ τότε ἀπὸ τοῦ προσώπου σου οὐ κρυβήσομαι

21Withdraw Your hand far from me, And let not the fear of You terrify me.

τὴν χεῖρα ἀπ᾿ ἐμοῦ ἀπέχου καὶ ὁ φόβος σου μή με καταπλησσέτω

22Then You will call, and I will obey You; Or You will speak, then I will give You an answer.

εἶτα καλέσεις ἐγὼ δέ σοι ὑπακούσομαι ἢ λαλήσεις ἐγὼ δέ σοι δώσω ἀνταπόκρισιν

23How many are my sins and transgressions? Teach me what they are.

πόσαι εἰσὶν αἱ ἁμαρτίαι μου καὶ αἱ ἀνομίαι μου δίδαξόν με τίνες εἰσίν

24Why do You hide Yourself from me And regard me as Your enemy?

διὰ τί ἀπ᾿ ἐμοῦ κρύπτῃ ἥγησαι δέ με ὑπεναντίον σοι

25Will You take heed of me as a leaf shaken by the wind? Or will You set Yourself against me as grass blown by the wind?

ἦ ὡς φύλλον κινούμενον ὑπὸ ἀνέμου εὐλαβηθήσῃ ἢ ὡς χόρτῳ φερομένῳ ὑπὸ πνεύματος ἀντίκεισαί μοι

26For You wrote evil things against me And compassed me with the sins of my youth.

ὅτι κατέγραψας κατ᾿ ἐμοῦ κακά περιέθηκας δέ μοι νεότητος ἁμαρτίας

27You have put my foot in the stocks, Have watched all my works, And have penetrated into the roots of my feet,

ἔθου δέ μου τὸν πόδα ἐν κωλύματι ἐφύλαξας δέ μου πάντα τὰ ἔργα εἰς δὲ ῥίζας τῶν ποδῶν μου ἀφίκου

28Which have become old like a wineskin Or like a moth-eaten garment.

ὃ παλαιοῦται ἴσα ἀσκῷ ἢ ὥσπερ ἱμάτιον σητόβρωτον
