Job 34

1Then Elihu continued and said:

ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ελιους λέγει

2Hear me, O wise men who are present, And pay close attention to what is good.

ἀκούσατέ μου σοφοί ἐπιστάμενοι ἐνωτίζεσθε τὸ καλόν

3For the ear tests words as the palate tastes food.

ὅτι οὖς λόγους δοκιμάζει καὶ λάρυγξ γεύεται βρῶσιν

4Let us choose judgment for ourselves; Let us know among ourselves what is good.

κρίσιν ἑλώμεθα ἑαυτοῖς γνῶμεν ἀνὰ μέσον ἑαυτῶν ὅ τι καλόν

5For Job has said, 'I am righteous, And the Lord has taken away my judgment.'

ὅτι εἴρηκεν Ιωβ δίκαιός εἰμι ὁ κύριος ἀπήλλαξέν μου τὸ κρίμα

6But he spoke untruth in my judgment when he said, 'My wound is severe, though I am without wrongdoing.'

ἐψεύσατο δὲ τῷ κρίματί μου βίαιον τὸ βέλος μου ἄνευ ἀδικίας

7What man is like Job, Who drinks scorn like water?

τίς ἀνὴρ ὥσπερ Ιωβ πίνων μυκτηρισμὸν ὥσπερ ὕδωρ

8For he says, 'I have not sinned, nor committed ungodliness, Nor had anything in common with the workers of lawlessness, So as to walk with ungodly men.'

οὐχ ἁμαρτὼν οὐδὲ ἀσεβήσας ἢ ὁδοῦ κοινωνήσας μετὰ ποιούντων τὰ ἄνομα τοῦ πορευθῆναι μετὰ ἀσεβῶν

9For you should not say, 'There shall be no visitation of a man,' Whereas there is a visitation on him from the Lord.

μὴ γὰρ εἴπῃς ὅτι οὐκ ἔσται ἐπισκοπὴ ἀνδρός καὶ ἐπισκοπὴ αὐτῷ παρὰ κυρίου

10'Therefore listen to me, you wise in heart: May it be far from me to act in an ungodly way before the Lord And to pervert righteousness before the Almighty.

διό συνετοὶ καρδίας ἀκούσατέ μου μή μοι εἴη ἔναντι κυρίου ἀσεβῆσαι καὶ ἔναντι παντοκράτορος ταράξαι τὸ δίκαιον

11Yes, He renders to a man as each one of them does, And in a man's path He will find him.

ἀλλὰ ἀποδιδοῖ ἀνθρώπῳ καθὰ ποιεῖ ἕκαστος αὐτῶν καὶ ἐν τρίβῳ ἀνδρὸς εὑρήσει αὐτόν

12Do you think the Lord will do wrong, Or will the Almighty who made the earth pervert judgment?

οἴῃ δὲ τὸν κύριον ἄτοπα ποιήσειν ἢ ὁ παντοκράτωρ ταράξει κρίσιν

13Who is He who created everything under heaven And all things therein?

ὃς ἐποίησεν τὴν γῆν τίς δέ ἐστιν ὁ ποιῶν τὴν ὑπ᾿ οὐρανὸν καὶ τὰ ἐνόντα πάντα

14If He should wish to hold and restrain His breath within Himself,

εἰ γὰρ βούλοιτο συνέχειν καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα παρ᾿ αὐτῷ κατασχεῖν

15All flesh would die together, And every mortal would return to the ground From which he was formed.

τελευτήσει πᾶσα σὰρξ ὁμοθυμαδόν πᾶς δὲ βροτὸς εἰς γῆν ἀπελεύσεται ὅθεν καὶ ἐπλάσθη

16Take heed to this, lest He warn you; Pay close attention to the voice of His words.

εἰ δὲ μὴ νουθετῇ ἄκουε ταῦτα ἐνωτίζου φωνὴν ῥημάτων

17Behold then the one who hates lawless things And destroys the evil ones. He is forever righteous.

ἰδὲ σὺ τὸν μισοῦντα ἄνομα καὶ τὸν ὀλλύντα τοὺς πονηροὺς ὄντα αἰώνιον δίκαιον

18He is ungodly who says to a king, 'You act contrary to the law,' And to rulers, 'O, most ungodly one.'

ἀσεβὴς ὁ λέγων βασιλεῖ παρανομεῖς ἀσεβέστατε τοῖς ἄρχουσιν

19Such a man is not ashamed Before the face of an honorable man, Nor does he know how to give honor to the great, So as to show proper respect.

ὃς οὐκ ἐπῃσχύνθη πρόσωπον ἐντίμου οὐδὲ οἶδεν τιμὴν θέσθαι ἁδροῖς θαυμασθῆναι πρόσωπα αὐτῶν

20But it will prove to be in vain for them to cry out And beg the favor of a man; For they dealt unlawfully when they turned aside the weak.

κενὰ δὲ αὐτοῖς ἀποβήσεται τὸ κεκραγέναι καὶ δεῖσθαι ἀνδρός ἐχρήσαντο γὰρ παρανόμως ἐκκλινομένων ἀδυνάτων

21'For He is the observer of the works of man, And nothing of what they do escapes Him.

αὐτὸς γὰρ ὁρατής ἐστιν ἔργων ἀνθρώπων λέληθεν δὲ αὐτὸν οὐδὲν ὧν πράσσουσιν

22There is no place for the workers of lawlessness to hide themselves.

οὐδὲ ἔσται τόπος τοῦ κρυβῆναι τοὺς ποιοῦντας τὰ ἄνομα

23He need not further consider a man, For the Lord gazes upon all men.

ὅτι οὐκ ἐπ᾿ ἄνδρα θήσει ἔτι ὁ γὰρ κύριος πάντας ἐφορᾷ

24He comprehends unsearchable things, Glorious also and extraordinary things without number.

ὁ καταλαμβάνων ἀνεξιχνίαστα ἔνδοξά τε καὶ ἐξαίσια ὧν οὐκ ἔστιν ἀριθμός

25He discloses their works; And He will overthrow them in the night, And they will be brought low.

ὁ γνωρίζων αὐτῶν τὰ ἔργα καὶ στρέψει νύκτα καὶ ταπεινωθήσονται

26He extinguishes the ungodly, For they are visible before Him,

ἔσβεσεν δὲ ἀσεβεῖς ὁρατοὶ δὲ ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ

27Because they turned aside from the law of God And would not regard His ordinances,

ὅτι ἐξέκλιναν ἐκ νόμου θεοῦ δικαιώματα δὲ αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐπέγνωσαν

28So as to bring before Him the cry of the needy; For He will hear the cry of the poor.

τοῦ ἐπαγαγεῖν ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸν κραυγὴν πένητος καὶ κραυγὴν πτωχῶν εἰσακούσεται

29He will provide quietness, and who shall condemn Him? And He will hide His face, and who shall see Him? Whether it be done against a nation or a man jointly,

καὶ αὐτὸς ἡσυχίαν παρέξει καὶ τίς καταδικάσεται καὶ κρύψει πρόσωπον καὶ τίς ὄψεται αὐτόν καὶ κατὰ ἔθνους καὶ κατὰ ἀνθρώπου ὁμοῦ

30To cause a hypocrite to be king, Because of the discontent of the people.

βασιλεύων ἄνθρωπον ὑποκριτὴν ἀπὸ δυσκολίας λαοῦ

31'For there is one that says to the Mighty One, 'I have received blessings; I will not take in pledge;

ὅτι πρὸς τὸν ἰσχυρὸν ὁ λέγων εἴληφα οὐκ ἐνεχυράσω

32I will see apart from myself; Show me if I have done unrighteousness, And I will do so no more.'

ἄνευ ἐμαυτοῦ ὄψομαι σὺ δεῖξόν μοι εἰ ἀδικίαν ἠργασάμην οὐ μὴ προσθήσω

33Will He not take vengeance for it from you, Because you failed to listen to your conscience? For you will choose, and not I; Therefore, speak what you know.

μὴ παρὰ σοῦ ἀποτείσει αὐτήν ὅτι ἀπώσῃ ὅτι σὺ ἐκλέξῃ καὶ οὐκ ἐγώ καὶ τί ἔγνως λάλησον

34'For this reason wise men in heart shall say this, And a wise man listens to my word.

διὸ συνετοὶ καρδίας ἐροῦσιν ταῦτα ἀνὴρ δὲ σοφὸς ἀκήκοέν μου τὸ ῥῆμα

35But Job has spoken without understanding, And his words are without knowledge.

Ιωβ δὲ οὐκ ἐν συνέσει ἐλάλησεν τὰ δὲ ῥήματα αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐν ἐπιστήμῃ

36But learn, Job, and no longer answer like that of foolish men,

οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ μάθε Ιωβ μὴ δῷς ἔτι ἀνταπόκρισιν ὥσπερ οἱ ἄφρονες

37That we add not to our sins; For lawlessness will be counted against us If we speak many words against the Lord.'

ἵνα μὴ προσθῶμεν ἐφ᾿ ἁμαρτίαις ἡμῶν ἀνομία δὲ ἐφ᾿ ἡμῖν λογισθήσεται πολλὰ λαλούντων ῥήματα ἐναντίον τοῦ κυρίου
