Job 5

1But call out, if there is any one who will obey you, Or if you shall see any of the holy angels.

ἐπικάλεσαι δέ εἴ τίς σοι ὑπακούσεται ἢ εἴ τινα ἀγγέλων ἁγίων ὄψῃ

2For wrath destroys a foolish man, And envy slays one who is deceived.

καὶ γὰρ ἄφρονα ἀναιρεῖ ὀργή πεπλανημένον δὲ θανατοῖ ζῆλος

3I have seen foolish people taking root, But suddenly their mode of life consumed them.

ἐγὼ δὲ ἑώρακα ἄφρονας ῥίζαν βάλλοντας ἀλλ᾿ εὐθέως ἐβρώθη αὐτῶν ἡ δίαιτα

4May their children be far from salvation, May they be derided at the gates of worse people, And may there be no one to deliver them.

πόρρω γένοιντο οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτῶν ἀπὸ σωτηρίας κολαβρισθείησαν δὲ ἐπὶ θύραις ἡσσόνων καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ ἐξαιρούμενος

5For the righteous will eat what they have gathered, But they themselves will not be delivered from calamities. Their strength will be exhausted.

ἃ γὰρ ἐκεῖνοι συνήγαγον δίκαιοι ἔδονται αὐτοὶ δὲ ἐκ κακῶν οὐκ ἐξαίρετοι ἔσονται ἐκσιφωνισθείη αὐτῶν ἡ ἰσχύς

6For trouble does not come from the earth, Nor does suffering spring from the mountains;

οὐ γὰρ μὴ ἐξέλθῃ ἐκ τῆς γῆς κόπος οὐδὲ ἐξ ὀρέων ἀναβλαστήσει πόνος

7Yet man is born for trouble As the young bird is born to fly to high places.

ἀλλὰ ἄνθρωπος γεννᾶται κόπῳ νεοσσοὶ δὲ γυπὸς τὰ ὑψηλὰ πέτονται

8But surely as for me, I will beseech the Lord, And call upon the Lord and Master of all,

οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ ἐγὼ δεηθήσομαι κυρίου κύριον δὲ τὸν πάντων δεσπότην ἐπικαλέσομαι

9Who does great, incomprehensible, And marvelous things without number.

τὸν ποιοῦντα μεγάλα καὶ ἀνεξιχνίαστα ἔνδοξά τε καὶ ἐξαίσια ὧν οὐκ ἔστιν ἀριθμός

10He causes rain on the earth And sends water on all the places under the heaven.

τὸν διδόντα ὑετὸν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ἀποστέλλοντα ὕδωρ ἐπὶ τὴν ὑπ᾿ οὐρανόν

11He sets the lowly on high And raises up the lost.

τὸν ποιοῦντα ταπεινοὺς εἰς ὕψος καὶ ἀπολωλότας ἐξεγείροντα

12He frustrates the counsels of the crafty So their hands cannot carry out their plans.

διαλλάσσοντα βουλὰς πανούργων καὶ οὐ μὴ ποιήσουσιν αἱ χεῖρες αὐτῶν ἀληθές

13He catches the wise in their craftiness And subverts the counsel of the cunning.

ὁ καταλαμβάνων σοφοὺς ἐν τῇ φρονήσει βουλὴν δὲ πολυπλόκων ἐξέστησεν

14Let them encounter darkness in the daytime, And may they grope at noontime as though it were night.

ἡμέρας συναντήσεται αὐτοῖς σκότος τὸ δὲ μεσημβρινὸν ψηλαφήσαισαν ἴσα νυκτί

15May they perish in war, But may the weak escape from the hand of the mighty.

ἀπόλοιντο δὲ ἐν πολέμῳ ἀδύνατος δὲ ἐξέλθοι ἐκ χειρὸς δυνάστου

16May the weak have hope, And may the mouth of the unrighteous be stopped.

εἴη δὲ ἀδυνάτῳ ἐλπίς ἀδίκου δὲ στόμα ἐμφραχθείη

17'But blessed is the man whom God corrects; Therefore, do not reject the chastening of the Almighty.

μακάριος δὲ ἄνθρωπος ὃν ἤλεγξεν ὁ κύριος νουθέτημα δὲ παντοκράτορος μὴ ἀπαναίνου

18For He causes a man to be in pain, But He restores him again.

αὐτὸς γὰρ ἀλγεῖν ποιεῖ καὶ πάλιν ἀποκαθίστησιν ἔπαισεν καὶ αἱ χεῖρες αὐτοῦ ἰάσαντο

19He smites, but His hands heal. Six times He shall deliver you out of troubles, And in seven no harm shall touch you.

ἑξάκις ἐξ ἀναγκῶν σε ἐξελεῖται ἐν δὲ τῷ ἑβδόμῳ οὐ μὴ ἅψηταί σου κακόν

20In famine He shall deliver you from death, And in war He shall free you from the power of the sword.

ἐν λιμῷ ῥύσεταί σε ἐκ θανάτου ἐν πολέμῳ δὲ ἐκ χειρὸς σιδήρου λύσει σε

21He shall hide you from the scourge of the tongue, And you shall not be afraid of evils when they come.

ἀπὸ μάστιγος γλώσσης σε κρύψει καὶ οὐ μὴ φοβηθῇς ἀπὸ κακῶν ἐρχομένων

22You shall laugh at the unrighteous and the lawless, And you shall not be afraid of the wild animals of the earth.

ἀδίκων καὶ ἀνόμων καταγελάσῃ ἀπὸ δὲ θηρίων ἀγρίων οὐ μὴ φοβηθῇς

23For the wild animals of the field shall be at peace with you.

θῆρες γὰρ ἄγριοι εἰρηνεύσουσίν σοι

24Then you shall know your house will be at peace with you; And in your dwelling place there shall be nothing amiss.

εἶτα γνώσῃ ὅτι εἰρηνεύσει σου ὁ οἶκος ἡ δὲ δίαιτα τῆς σκηνῆς σου οὐ μὴ ἁμάρτῃ

25You shall also know your seed shall be many, And your children shall be like the grass of the earth.

γνώσῃ δὲ ὅτι πολὺ τὸ σπέρμα σου τὰ δὲ τέκνα σου ἔσται ὥσπερ τὸ παμβότανον τοῦ ἀγροῦ

26You shall come to the grave as grain reaped in its season, Or as a heap of threshed wheat harvested at the proper time.

ἐλεύσῃ δὲ ἐν τάφῳ ὥσπερ σῖτος ὥριμος κατὰ καιρὸν θεριζόμενος ἢ ὥσπερ θιμωνιὰ ἅλωνος καθ᾿ ὥραν συγκομισθεῖσα

27Behold, we have searched this out; This is what we have heard. Know for yourself if you have done anything wrong.'

ἰδοὺ ταῦτα οὕτως ἐξιχνιάσαμεν ταῦτά ἐστιν ἃ ἀκηκόαμεν σὺ δὲ γνῶθι σεαυτῷ εἴ τι ἔπραξας
