Numbers 4

1Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν καὶ Ααρων λέγων

2'Take a sum total of the sons of Kohath from among the children of Levi, by their tribes and the houses of their families,

λαβὲ τὸ κεφάλαιον τῶν υἱῶν Κααθ ἐκ μέσου υἱῶν Λευι κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ᾿ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν

3from twenty-five years old and above, even to fifty years old, all who enter liturgical service to do all the works in the tabernacle of testimony.

ἀπὸ εἴκοσι καὶ πέντε ἐτῶν καὶ ἐπάνω καὶ ἕως πεντήκοντα ἐτῶν πᾶς ὁ εἰσπορευόμενος λειτουργεῖν ποιῆσαι πάντα τὰ ἔργα ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου

4These are the works, the most holy things, of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of testimony:

καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ἔργα τῶν υἱῶν Κααθ ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου ἅγιον τῶν ἁγίων

5When the camp prepares to journey, Aaron and his sons shall enter, and take down the overshadowing veil and cover the ark of the testimony with it.

καὶ εἰσελεύσεται Ααρων καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ ὅταν ἐξαίρῃ ἡ παρεμβολή καὶ καθελοῦσιν τὸ καταπέτασμα τὸ συσκιάζον καὶ κατακαλύψουσιν ἐν αὐτῷ τὴν κιβωτὸν τοῦ μαρτυρίου

6Then they shall put on it a blue leather covering; and on top of this they shall spread an entirely blue cloth, and then insert the carrying-poles.

καὶ ἐπιθήσουσιν ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸ κατακάλυμμα δέρμα ὑακίνθινον καὶ ἐπιβαλοῦσιν ἐπ᾿ αὐτὴν ἱμάτιον ὅλον ὑακίνθινον ἄνωθεν καὶ διεμβαλοῦσιν τοὺς ἀναφορεῖς

7On the table of presentation they shall spread a cloth all of purple and put on it the dishes, the censers, the cups, and the bowls for pouring the drink-offerings; and the perpetual loaves shall be on it.

καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν τράπεζαν τὴν προκειμένην ἐπιβαλοῦσιν ἐπ᾿ αὐτὴν ἱμάτιον ὁλοπόρφυρον καὶ τὰ τρυβλία καὶ τὰς θυίσκας καὶ τοὺς κυάθους καὶ τὰ σπονδεῖα ἐν οἷς σπένδει καὶ οἱ ἄρτοι οἱ διὰ παντὸς ἐπ᾿ αὐτῆς ἔσονται

8They shall spread over it a scarlet cloth; and they shall cover it with a blue leather covering and then insert its carrying-poles.

καὶ ἐπιβαλοῦσιν ἐπ᾿ αὐτὴν ἱμάτιον κόκκινον καὶ καλύψουσιν αὐτὴν καλύμματι δερματίνῳ ὑακινθίνῳ καὶ διεμβαλοῦσιν δι᾿ αὐτῆς τοὺς ἀναφορεῖς

9Then they shall take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand of the light with its lamps, its wick-trimmers, its funnels, and all its oil vessels with which they minister liturgically.

καὶ λήμψονται ἱμάτιον ὑακίνθινον καὶ καλύψουσιν τὴν λυχνίαν τὴν φωτίζουσαν καὶ τοὺς λύχνους αὐτῆς καὶ τὰς λαβίδας αὐτῆς καὶ τὰς ἐπαρυστρίδας αὐτῆς καὶ πάντα τὰ ἀγγεῖα τοῦ ἐλαίου οἷς λειτουργοῦσιν ἐν αὐτοῖς

10Then they shall put it with all its vessels in a covering of blue leather, and put it on a carrying-pole.

καὶ ἐμβαλοῦσιν αὐτὴν καὶ πάντα τὰ σκεύη αὐτῆς εἰς κάλυμμα δερμάτινον ὑακίνθινον καὶ ἐπιθήσουσιν αὐτὴν ἐπ᾿ ἀναφορέων

11Over the golden altar they shall spread a blue cloth; and they shall cover it with a covering of blue leather and then insert its carrying-poles.

καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον τὸ χρυσοῦν ἐπικαλύψουσιν ἱμάτιον ὑακίνθινον καὶ καλύψουσιν αὐτὸ καλύμματι δερματίνῳ ὑακινθίνῳ καὶ διεμβαλοῦσιν τοὺς ἀναφορεῖς αὐτοῦ

12Then they shall take all the vessels for liturgical service with which they minister liturgically in the holy things, put them in a blue cloth, cover them with blue leather covering, and put them on carrying-poles.

καὶ λήμψονται πάντα τὰ σκεύη τὰ λειτουργικά ὅσα λειτουργοῦσιν ἐν αὐτοῖς ἐν τοῖς ἁγίοις καὶ ἐμβαλοῦσιν εἰς ἱμάτιον ὑακίνθινον καὶ καλύψουσιν αὐτὰ καλύμματι δερματίνῳ ὑακινθίνῳ καὶ ἐπιθήσουσιν ἐπὶ ἀναφορεῖς

13Also they shall put the covering on the altar and spread a cloth entirely of purple over it.

καὶ τὸν καλυπτῆρα ἐπιθήσει ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον καὶ ἐπικαλύψουσιν ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸ ἱμάτιον ὁλοπόρφυρον

14They shall put on it all its vessels with which they minister liturgically there—the fire pans, the forks, the bowls, the cover, and all the vessels of the altar—and they shall spread on it a covering of blue leather and insert its carrying-poles. Then they shall spread on it a blue leather cover, and insert its carrying-poles. After this, they shall take a purple cloth to cover the laver and its base, and put them into a blue leather cover, and then put them on carrying-poles.

καὶ ἐπιθήσουσιν ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸ πάντα τὰ σκεύη ὅσοις λειτουργοῦσιν ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸ ἐν αὐτοῖς καὶ τὰ πυρεῖα καὶ τὰς κρεάγρας καὶ τὰς φιάλας καὶ τὸν καλυπτῆρα καὶ πάντα τὰ σκεύη τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου καὶ ἐπιβαλοῦσιν ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸ κάλυμμα δερμάτινον ὑακίνθινον καὶ διεμβαλοῦσιν τοὺς ἀναφορεῖς αὐτοῦ καὶ λήμψονται ἱμάτιον πορφυροῦν καὶ συγκαλύψουσιν τὸν λουτῆρα καὶ τὴν βάσιν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐμβαλοῦσιν αὐτὰ εἰς κάλυμμα δερμάτινον ὑακίνθινον καὶ ἐπιθήσουσιν ἐπὶ ἀναφορεῖς

15Then after Aaron and his sons finish covering the holy things and all the holy vessels, when the camp is set to go, then the sons of Kohath shall enter to carry them; but they shall not touch the holy things, lest they die. These are the things in the tabernacle of testimony the sons of Kohath are to carry:

καὶ συντελέσουσιν Ααρων καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ καλύπτοντες τὰ ἅγια καὶ πάντα τὰ σκεύη τὰ ἅγια ἐν τῷ ἐξαίρειν τὴν παρεμβολήν καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα εἰσελεύσονται υἱοὶ Κααθ αἴρειν καὶ οὐχ ἅψονται τῶν ἁγίων ἵνα μὴ ἀποθάνωσιν ταῦτα ἀροῦσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Κααθ ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου

16(the overseer is Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest) the oil for the light, the incense compound, the daily grain offering, the anointing oil, the oversight of all the tabernacle, and whatever is in it, in the holy place with all its works.'

ἐπίσκοπος Ελεαζαρ υἱὸς Ααρων τοῦ ἱερέως τὸ ἔλαιον τοῦ φωτὸς καὶ τὸ θυμίαμα τῆς συνθέσεως καὶ ἡ θυσία ἡ καθ᾿ ἡμέραν καὶ τὸ ἔλαιον τῆς χρίσεως ἡ ἐπισκοπὴ ὅλης τῆς σκηνῆς καὶ ὅσα ἐστὶν ἐν αὐτῇ ἐν τῷ ἁγίῳ ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς ἔργοις

17Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν καὶ Ααρων λέγων

18'Do not destroy the tribe of the Kohathite families from among the Levites;

μὴ ὀλεθρεύσητε τῆς φυλῆς τὸν δῆμον τὸν Κααθ ἐκ μέσου τῶν Λευιτῶν

19but do this in regard to them, so they may live and not die when they approach the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in and appoint each of them according to his transport duty.

τοῦτο ποιήσατε αὐτοῖς καὶ ζήσονται καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνωσιν προσπορευομένων αὐτῶν πρὸς τὰ ἅγια τῶν ἁγίων Ααρων καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ προσπορευέσθωσαν καὶ καταστήσουσιν αὐτοὺς ἕκαστον κατὰ τὴν ἀναφορὰν αὐτοῦ

20But they shall not go in unexpectedly to watch the holy things, lest they die.'

καὶ οὐ μὴ εἰσέλθωσιν ἰδεῖν ἐξάπινα τὰ ἅγια καὶ ἀποθανοῦνται

21Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων

22'Also take a census of the sons of Gershon, by their fathers' houses according to their tribes.

λαβὲ τὴν ἀρχὴν τῶν υἱῶν Γεδσων καὶ τούτους κατ᾿ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν

23From twenty-five years old and above, even to fifty years old, you shall take a census of them, all who enter to minister liturgically, to do its works in the tabernacle of testimony.

ἀπὸ πεντεκαιεικοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω ἕως πεντηκονταετοῦς ἐπίσκεψαι αὐτούς πᾶς ὁ εἰσπορευόμενος λειτουργεῖν καὶ ποιεῖν τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου

24This is the liturgical service of the tribe of the Gershonites, in serving liturgically and in carrying:

αὕτη ἡ λειτουργία τοῦ δήμου τοῦ Γεδσων λειτουργεῖν καὶ αἴρειν

25They shall carry the curtains of the tabernacle and the tabernacle of testimony with its covering, the covering of blue leather over it, the screen for the door of the tabernacle of testimony,

καὶ ἀρεῖ τὰς δέρρεις τῆς σκηνῆς καὶ τὴν σκηνὴν τοῦ μαρτυρίου καὶ τὸ κάλυμμα αὐτῆς καὶ τὸ κάλυμμα τὸ ὑακίνθινον τὸ ὂν ἐπ᾿ αὐτῆς ἄνωθεν καὶ τὸ κάλυμμα τῆς θύρας τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου

26the curtains of the court, which are around the tabernacle of testimony, and all the abundance of liturgical vessels, with which they minister liturgically: so shall they do.

καὶ τὰ ἱστία τῆς αὐλῆς ὅσα ἐπὶ τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου καὶ τὰ περισσὰ καὶ πάντα τὰ σκεύη τὰ λειτουργικά ὅσα λειτουργοῦσιν ἐν αὐτοῖς ποιήσουσιν

27Aaron and his sons shall assign all the liturgical service of the sons of the Gershonites, according to all their liturgical service and all the things to be carried by them. You shall assign them by name with all the matters to be carried by them.

κατὰ στόμα Ααρων καὶ τῶν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ ἔσται ἡ λειτουργία τῶν υἱῶν Γεδσων κατὰ πάσας τὰς λειτουργίας αὐτῶν καὶ κατὰ πάντα τὰ ἀρτὰ δι᾿ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπισκέψῃ αὐτοὺς ἐξ ὀνομάτων πάντα τὰ ἀρτὰ ὑπ᾿ αὐτῶν

28This is the liturgical service of the sons of Gershon in the tabernacle of testimony, and their duties shall be under the authority of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.

αὕτη ἡ λειτουργία τῶν υἱῶν Γεδσων ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου καὶ ἡ φυλακὴ αὐτῶν ἐν χειρὶ Ιθαμαρ τοῦ υἱοῦ Ααρων τοῦ ἱερέως

29'As for the sons of Merari, you shall number them by their tribes and their fathers' houses.

υἱοὶ Μεραρι κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ᾿ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν ἐπισκέψασθε αὐτούς

30From twenty-five years old and above, even to fifty years old, you shall number them, everyone who enters the liturgical service to do the work of the tabernacle of testimony.

ἀπὸ πεντεκαιεικοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω ἕως πεντηκονταετοῦς ἐπισκέψασθε αὐτούς πᾶς ὁ εἰσπορευόμενος λειτουργεῖν τὰ ἔργα τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου

31These things to be carried by them are their duties relative to all their works in the tabernacle of testimony: the capitals of the tabernacle, and its bars, pillars, bases, and the screen. They shall also carry the bases, the pillars, and the screen of the door of the tabernacle,

καὶ ταῦτα τὰ φυλάγματα τῶν αἰρομένων ὑπ᾿ αὐτῶν κατὰ πάντα τὰ ἔργα αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου τὰς κεφαλίδας τῆς σκηνῆς καὶ τοὺς μοχλοὺς καὶ τοὺς στύλους αὐτῆς καὶ τὰς βάσεις αὐτῆς καὶ τὸ κατακάλυμμα καὶ αἱ βάσεις αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ στύλοι αὐτῶν καὶ τὸ κατακάλυμμα τῆς θύρας τῆς σκηνῆς

32and the pillars around the court with their bases, and the pillars of the screen of the courtyard gate, and their bases, pegs, and cords, with all their vessels and liturgical things; and you shall assign them by name all the vessels they are responsible to carry.

καὶ τοὺς στύλους τῆς αὐλῆς κύκλῳ καὶ αἱ βάσεις αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς στύλους τοῦ καταπετάσματος τῆς πύλης τῆς αὐλῆς καὶ τὰς βάσεις αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς πασσάλους αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς κάλους αὐτῶν καὶ πάντα τὰ σκεύη αὐτῶν καὶ πάντα τὰ λειτουργήματα αὐτῶν ἐξ ὀνομάτων ἐπισκέψασθε αὐτοὺς καὶ πάντα τὰ σκεύη τῆς φυλακῆς τῶν αἰρομένων ὑπ᾿ αὐτῶν

33This is the liturgical service of the tribe of the sons of Merari, in all their works for the tabernacle of testimony, under the authority of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.'

αὕτη ἡ λειτουργία δήμου υἱῶν Μεραρι ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἔργοις αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου ἐν χειρὶ Ιθαμαρ υἱοῦ Ααρων τοῦ ἱερέως

34Thus Moses, Aaron, and the rulers of the congregation took a census of the sons of the Kohathites by their tribes and their fathers' houses,

καὶ ἐπεσκέψατο Μωυσῆς καὶ Ααρων καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες Ισραηλ τοὺς υἱοὺς Κααθ κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ᾿ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν

35from twenty-five years old and above, even to fifty years old, everyone who entered the liturgical service for work in the tabernacle of testimony.

ἀπὸ πεντεκαιεικοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω ἕως πεντηκονταετοῦς πᾶς ὁ εἰσπορευόμενος λειτουργεῖν καὶ ποιεῖν ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου

36Their numbering according to their tribes was two thousand seven hundred fifty.

καὶ ἐγένετο ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν δισχίλιοι διακόσιοι πεντήκοντα

37This is the numbering of the tribe of the Kohathites, all who were serving liturgically in the tabernacle of testimony, whom Moses and Aaron numbered by the voice of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

αὕτη ἡ ἐπίσκεψις δήμου Κααθ πᾶς ὁ λειτουργῶν ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου καθὰ ἐπεσκέψατο Μωυσῆς καὶ Ααρων διὰ φωνῆς κυρίου ἐν χειρὶ Μωυσῆ

38Those numbered of the sons of Gershon, by their tribes and their fathers' houses,

καὶ ἐπεσκέπησαν υἱοὶ Γεδσων κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ᾿ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν

39from twenty-five years old and above, even to fifty years old, everyone entering the liturgical service to do the works in the tabernacle of testimony—

ἀπὸ πεντεκαιεικοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω ἕως πεντηκονταετοῦς πᾶς ὁ εἰσπορευόμενος λειτουργεῖν καὶ ποιεῖν τὰ ἔργα ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου

40those numbered by their tribes and their fathers' houses, were two thousand six hundred thirty.

καὶ ἐγένετο ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ᾿ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν δισχίλιοι ἑξακόσιοι τριάκοντα

41This was the census of the tribe of the sons of Gershon, everyone serving in the tabernacle of testimony, whom Moses and Aaron numbered by the voice of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

αὕτη ἡ ἐπίσκεψις δήμου υἱῶν Γεδσων πᾶς ὁ λειτουργῶν ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου οὓς ἐπεσκέψατο Μωυσῆς καὶ Ααρων διὰ φωνῆς κυρίου ἐν χειρὶ Μωυσῆ

42Those numbered of the tribe of the sons of Merari, who were numbered by their tribes and their fathers' houses,

ἐπεσκέπησαν δὲ καὶ δῆμος υἱῶν Μεραρι κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ᾿ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν

43from twenty-five years old and above, even to fifty years old, everyone entering the liturgical service for the works in the tabernacle of testimony

ἀπὸ πεντεκαιεικοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω ἕως πεντηκονταετοῦς πᾶς ὁ εἰσπορευόμενος λειτουργεῖν πρὸς τὰ ἔργα τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου

44those numbered by their tribes and their fathers' houses were three thousand two hundred.

καὶ ἐγενήθη ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ᾿ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν τρισχίλιοι καὶ διακόσιοι

45This was the census of the tribe of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron numbered by the voice of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

αὕτη ἡ ἐπίσκεψις δήμου υἱῶν Μεραρι οὓς ἐπεσκέψατο Μωυσῆς καὶ Ααρων διὰ φωνῆς κυρίου ἐν χειρὶ Μωυσῆ

46All who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses, Aaron, and the rulers of Israel numbered, by their tribes and their fathers' houses,

πάντες οἱ ἐπεσκεμμένοι οὓς ἐπεσκέψατο Μωυσῆς καὶ Ααρων καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες Ισραηλ τοὺς Λευίτας κατὰ δήμους κατ᾿ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν

47from twenty-five years old and above, even to fifty years old, everyone entering for the task of works and the works of carrying the things in the tabernacle of testimony—

ἀπὸ πεντεκαιεικοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω ἕως πεντηκονταετοῦς πᾶς ὁ εἰσπορευόμενος πρὸς τὸ ἔργον τῶν ἔργων καὶ τὰ ἔργα τὰ αἰρόμενα ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου

48those numbered were eight thousand five hundred eighty.

καὶ ἐγενήθησαν οἱ ἐπισκεπέντες ὀκτακισχίλιοι πεντακόσιοι ὀγδοήκοντα

49By the voice of the Lord by the hand of Moses they were numbered, each man according to his works and according to his task; thus were they numbered by him, in the manner the Lord commanded Moses.

διὰ φωνῆς κυρίου ἐπεσκέψατο αὐτοὺς ἐν χειρὶ Μωυσῆ ἄνδρα κατ᾿ ἄνδρα ἐπὶ τῶν ἔργων αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπὶ ὧν αἴρουσιν αὐτοί καὶ ἐπεσκέπησαν ὃν τρόπον συνέταξεν κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ
