Numbers 3

1Now these are the genealogies of Aaron and Moses when the Lord spoke with Moses

καὶ αὗται αἱ γενέσεις Ααρων καὶ Μωυσῆ ἐν ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ ἐλάλησεν κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ ἐν ὄρει Σινα

2These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab, the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν υἱῶν Ααρων πρωτότοκος Ναδαβ καὶ Αβιουδ Ελεαζαρ καὶ Ιθαμαρ

3These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he consecrated to minister as priests.

ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν υἱῶν Ααρων οἱ ἱερεῖς οἱ ἠλειμμένοι οὓς ἐτελείωσαν τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν ἱερατεύειν

4Nadab and Abihu had died before the Lord when they offered strange fire before the Lord in the Wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar ministered as priests with Aaron their father.

καὶ ἐτελεύτησεν Ναδαβ καὶ Αβιουδ ἔναντι κυρίου προσφερόντων αὐτῶν πῦρ ἀλλότριον ἔναντι κυρίου ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ Σινα καὶ παιδία οὐκ ἦν αὐτοῖς καὶ ἱεράτευσεν Ελεαζαρ καὶ Ιθαμαρ μετ᾿ Ααρων τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῶν

5Again, the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων

6'Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, so they may minister liturgically with him.

λαβὲ τὴν φυλὴν Λευι καὶ στήσεις αὐτοὺς ἐναντίον Ααρων τοῦ ἱερέως καὶ λειτουργήσουσιν αὐτῷ

7They shall perform duties for him and for the children of Israel before the tabernacle of testimony, according to all the works of the tabernacle.

καὶ φυλάξουσιν τὰς φυλακὰς αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰς φυλακὰς τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ ἔναντι τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου ἐργάζεσθαι τὰ ἔργα τῆς σκηνῆς

8They shall also perform duties for all the furnishings of the tabernacle of testimony, and for all the children of Israel, according to all the works of the tabernacle.

καὶ φυλάξουσιν πάντα τὰ σκεύη τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου καὶ τὰς φυλακὰς τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ κατὰ πάντα τὰ ἔργα τῆς σκηνῆς

9Thus you shall assign the Levites to Aaron and his sons the priests; they are given entirely to Me from the children of Israel.

καὶ δώσεις τοὺς Λευίτας Ααρων καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν δόμα δεδομένοι οὗτοί μοί εἰσιν ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ

10And you shall appoint Aaron and his sons over the tabernacle of testimony, and they shall guard their priesthood and all the things related to the altar and within the veil; but the foreigner who touches these things shall be put to death.'

καὶ Ααρων καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ καταστήσεις ἐπὶ τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου καὶ φυλάξουσιν τὴν ἱερατείαν αὐτῶν καὶ πάντα τὰ κατὰ τὸν βωμὸν καὶ ἔσω τοῦ καταπετάσματος καὶ ὁ ἀλλογενὴς ὁ ἁπτόμενος ἀποθανεῖται

11Moreover, the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων

12'Now behold, I Myself have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of every firstborn who opens the womb among the children of Israel. The Levites shall be a ransom from them; therefore, they shall be Mine,

καὶ ἐγὼ ἰδοὺ εἴληφα τοὺς Λευίτας ἐκ μέσου τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ ἀντὶ παντὸς πρωτοτόκου διανοίγοντος μήτραν παρὰ τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ λύτρα αὐτῶν ἔσονται καὶ ἔσονται ἐμοὶ οἱ Λευῖται

13because all the firstborn are Mine. On the day I struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the firstborn in Israel, from man to cattle. They shall be Mine; I am the Lord.'

ἐμοὶ γὰρ πᾶν πρωτότοκον ἐν ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ ἐπάταξα πᾶν πρωτότοκον ἐν γῇ Αἰγύπτου ἡγίασα ἐμοὶ πᾶν πρωτότοκον ἐν Ισραηλ ἀπὸ ἀνθρώπου ἕως κτήνους ἐμοὶ ἔσονται ἐγὼ κύριος

14Furthermore, the Lord spoke to Moses in the Wilderness of Sinai, saying,

καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ Σινα λέγων

15'Number the children of Levi by their fathers' houses, by their tribes, and by their families; you shall number every male from a month old and above.'

ἐπίσκεψαι τοὺς υἱοὺς Λευι κατ᾿ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν πᾶν ἀρσενικὸν ἀπὸ μηνιαίου καὶ ἐπάνω ἐπισκέψασθε αὐτούς

16So Moses and Aaron numbered them according to the voice of the Lord, in the manner the Lord commanded them.

καὶ ἐπεσκέψαντο αὐτοὺς Μωυσῆς καὶ Ααρων διὰ φωνῆς κυρίου ὃν τρόπον συνέταξεν αὐτοῖς κύριος

17These are the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

καὶ ἦσαν οὗτοι οἱ υἱοὶ Λευι ἐξ ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν Γεδσων Κααθ καὶ Μεραρι

18These are the names of the sons of Gershon by their tribes: Libni and Shimei;

καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν υἱῶν Γεδσων κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν Λοβενι καὶ Σεμεϊ

19and the sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, Izehar, Hebron, and Uzziel;

καὶ υἱοὶ Κααθ κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν Αμραμ καὶ Ισσααρ Χεβρων καὶ Οζιηλ

20and the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the tribes of the Levites by their fathers' houses.

καὶ υἱοὶ Μεραρι κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν Μοολι καὶ Μουσι οὗτοί εἰσιν δῆμοι τῶν Λευιτῶν κατ᾿ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν

21From Gershon came the tribe of the Libnites and the Shimites; these are the families of the Gershonites.

τῷ Γεδσων δῆμος τοῦ Λοβενι καὶ δῆμος τοῦ Σεμεϊ οὗτοι δῆμοι τοῦ Γεδσων

22Their census, according to the number of all the males from a month old and above, was seven thousand five hundred.

ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν παντὸς ἀρσενικοῦ ἀπὸ μηνιαίου καὶ ἐπάνω ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν ἑπτακισχίλιοι καὶ πεντακόσιοι

23The children of the Gershonites were to camp behind the tabernacle along the west side,

καὶ υἱοὶ Γεδσων ὀπίσω τῆς σκηνῆς παρὰ θάλασσαν παρεμβαλοῦσιν

24and the ruler of the father's house of the tribe of Gershon was Eliasaph the son of Lael.

καὶ ὁ ἄρχων οἴκου πατριᾶς τοῦ δήμου τοῦ Γεδσων Ελισαφ υἱὸς Λαηλ

25The charge of the children of Gershon in the tabernacle of testimony included the overall covering of the tabernacle and the screen for the door of the tabernacle of testimony,

καὶ ἡ φυλακὴ υἱῶν Γεδσων ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου ἡ σκηνὴ καὶ τὸ κάλυμμα καὶ τὸ κατακάλυμμα τῆς θύρας τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου

26and the curtains of the court, and the screen for the gate of the court by the tabernacle, and the rest of all its works.

καὶ τὰ ἱστία τῆς αὐλῆς καὶ τὸ καταπέτασμα τῆς πύλης τῆς αὐλῆς τῆς οὔσης ἐπὶ τῆς σκηνῆς καὶ τὰ κατάλοιπα πάντων τῶν ἔργων αὐτοῦ

27From Kohath came the tribes of the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites; these are the tribes of the Kohathites.

τῷ Κααθ δῆμος ὁ Αμραμις καὶ δῆμος ὁ Σααρις καὶ δῆμος ὁ Χεβρωνις καὶ δῆμος ὁ Οζιηλις οὗτοί εἰσιν δῆμοι τοῦ Κααθ

28Their census, according to the number of all the males from a month old and above, was eight thousand six hundred, keeping charge of the holy things.

κατὰ ἀριθμὸν πᾶν ἀρσενικὸν ἀπὸ μηνιαίου καὶ ἐπάνω ὀκτακισχίλιοι καὶ ἑξακόσιοι φυλάσσοντες τὰς φυλακὰς τῶν ἁγίων

29The tribes of the children of Kohath were to camp along the south side of the tabernacle,

οἱ δῆμοι τῶν υἱῶν Κααθ παρεμβαλοῦσιν ἐκ πλαγίων τῆς σκηνῆς κατὰ λίβα

30and the ruler of the house of the families of the Kohathite tribes was Elizaphan the son of Uzziel.

καὶ ὁ ἄρχων οἴκου πατριῶν τῶν δήμων τοῦ Κααθ Ελισαφαν υἱὸς Οζιηλ

31Their charge included the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the utensils of the holy place with which they ministered liturgically, the screen, and all their works.

καὶ ἡ φυλακὴ αὐτῶν ἡ κιβωτὸς καὶ ἡ τράπεζα καὶ ἡ λυχνία καὶ τὰ θυσιαστήρια καὶ τὰ σκεύη τοῦ ἁγίου ὅσα λειτουργοῦσιν ἐν αὐτοῖς καὶ τὸ κατακάλυμμα καὶ πάντα τὰ ἔργα αὐτῶν

32Now the ruler over the rulers of the Levites was Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest. He was appointed to be in charge of those responsible for the holy things.

καὶ ὁ ἄρχων ἐπὶ τῶν ἀρχόντων τῶν Λευιτῶν Ελεαζαρ ὁ υἱὸς Ααρων τοῦ ἱερέως καθεσταμένος φυλάσσειν τὰς φυλακὰς τῶν ἁγίων

33From Merari came the tribe of the Mahlites and the tribe of the Mushites; these were the tribes of Merari.

τῷ Μεραρι δῆμος ὁ Μοολι καὶ δῆμος ὁ Μουσι οὗτοί εἰσιν δῆμοι Μεραρι

34Their census, according to the number of all the males from a month old and above, was six thousand five hundred,

ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμόν πᾶν ἀρσενικὸν ἀπὸ μηνιαίου καὶ ἐπάνω ἑξακισχίλιοι καὶ πεντήκοντα

35and the ruler of the house of the families of the Merari tribe was Zuriel the son of Abihail. These were to camp on the north side of the tabernacle.

καὶ ὁ ἄρχων οἴκου πατριῶν τοῦ δήμου τοῦ Μεραρι Σουριηλ υἱὸς Αβιχαιλ ἐκ πλαγίων τῆς σκηνῆς παρεμβαλοῦσιν πρὸς βορρᾶν

36The appointed duty of the children of Merari included the pillars of the tabernacle, and the bars, the columns, and the bases, and all their furnishings and works,

ἡ ἐπίσκεψις ἡ φυλακὴ υἱῶν Μεραρι τὰς κεφαλίδας τῆς σκηνῆς καὶ τοὺς μοχλοὺς αὐτῆς καὶ τοὺς στύλους αὐτῆς καὶ τὰς βάσεις αὐτῆς καὶ πάντα τὰ σκεύη αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ ἔργα αὐτῶν

37and the pillars of the court all around, with their bases, pegs, and cords.

καὶ τοὺς στύλους τῆς αὐλῆς κύκλῳ καὶ τὰς βάσεις αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς πασσάλους καὶ τοὺς κάλους αὐτῶν

38Those camped in front of the tabernacle of testimony on the east were Moses, Aaron, and his sons, performing the guard duties of the holy place on behalf of the children of Israel; but the foreigner who touches these things shall be put to death.

καὶ οἱ παρεμβάλλοντες κατὰ πρόσωπον τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου ἀπ᾿ ἀνατολῆς Μωυσῆς καὶ Ααρων καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ φυλάσσοντες τὰς φυλακὰς τοῦ ἁγίου εἰς τὰς φυλακὰς τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ καὶ ὁ ἀλλογενὴς ὁ ἁπτόμενος ἀποθανεῖται

39The entire census of the Levites whom Moses and Aaron numbered by the voice of the Lord, by their tribes, all the males from a month old and above, was twenty-two thousand.

πᾶσα ἡ ἐπίσκεψις τῶν Λευιτῶν οὓς ἐπεσκέψατο Μωυσῆς καὶ Ααρων διὰ φωνῆς κυρίου κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν πᾶν ἀρσενικὸν ἀπὸ μηνιαίου καὶ ἐπάνω δύο καὶ εἴκοσι χιλιάδες

40Again, the Lord said to Moses, 'Take a census of all the firstborn males of the children of Israel from a month old and above, and take the number of their names.

καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων ἐπίσκεψαι πᾶν πρωτότοκον ἄρσεν τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ ἀπὸ μηνιαίου καὶ ἐπάνω καὶ λαβὲ τὸν ἀριθμὸν ἐξ ὀνόματος

41You shall take the Levites for Me—I am the Lord—instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstborn cattle among the children of Israel.'

καὶ λήμψῃ τοὺς Λευίτας ἐμοί ἐγὼ κύριος ἀντὶ πάντων τῶν πρωτοτόκων τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ καὶ τὰ κτήνη τῶν Λευιτῶν ἀντὶ πάντων τῶν πρωτοτόκων ἐν τοῖς κτήνεσιν τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ

42So Moses took a census of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, in the manner the Lord commanded him.

καὶ ἐπεσκέψατο Μωυσῆς ὃν τρόπον ἐνετείλατο κύριος πᾶν πρωτότοκον ἐν τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισραηλ

43Thus all the firstborn males, according to the number of names from a month old and above from the census, were twenty-two thousand two hundred seventy-three.

καὶ ἐγένοντο πάντα τὰ πρωτότοκα τὰ ἀρσενικὰ κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ἐξ ὀνόματος ἀπὸ μηνιαίου καὶ ἐπάνω ἐκ τῆς ἐπισκέψεως αὐτῶν δύο καὶ εἴκοσι χιλιάδες τρεῖς καὶ ἑβδομήκοντα καὶ διακόσιοι

44Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων

45'Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle. The Levites shall be Mine: I am the Lord.

λαβὲ τοὺς Λευίτας ἀντὶ πάντων τῶν πρωτοτόκων τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ καὶ τὰ κτήνη τῶν Λευιτῶν ἀντὶ τῶν κτηνῶν αὐτῶν καὶ ἔσονται ἐμοὶ οἱ Λευῖται ἐγὼ κύριος

46But for the redemption of the two hundred and seventy-three firstborn from the children of Israel who are more in number than the Levites,

καὶ τὰ λύτρα τριῶν καὶ ἑβδομήκοντα καὶ διακοσίων οἱ πλεονάζοντες παρὰ τοὺς Λευίτας ἀπὸ τῶν πρωτοτόκων τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ

47you shall take five shekels for each one individually; you shall take them according to the holy didrachm, the twenty obols of the shekel.

καὶ λήμψῃ πέντε σίκλους κατὰ κεφαλήν κατὰ τὸ δίδραχμον τὸ ἅγιον λήμψῃ εἴκοσι ὀβολοὺς τοῦ σίκλου

48Then you shall give the silver with which the excess number of them is redeemed to Aaron and his sons.'

καὶ δώσεις τὸ ἀργύριον Ααρων καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ λύτρα τῶν πλεοναζόντων ἐν αὐτοῖς

49So Moses took the silver, the redemption of those who exceeded the number, for the redemption of the Levites.

καὶ ἔλαβεν Μωυσῆς τὸ ἀργύριον τὰ λύτρα τῶν πλεοναζόντων εἰς τὴν ἐκλύτρωσιν τῶν Λευιτῶν

50From the firstborn of the children of Israel he took the silver, one thousand three hundred and sixty-five shekels, according to the holy shekel.

παρὰ τῶν πρωτοτόκων τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ ἔλαβεν τὸ ἀργύριον χιλίους τριακοσίους ἑξήκοντα πέντε σίκλους κατὰ τὸν σίκλον τὸν ἅγιον

51Then Moses gave their redemption money for those in excess to Aaron and his sons, according to the voice of the Lord, in the manner the Lord commanded Moses.

καὶ ἔδωκεν Μωυσῆς τὰ λύτρα τῶν πλεοναζόντων Ααρων καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ διὰ φωνῆς κυρίου ὃν τρόπον συνέταξεν κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ
