Isaiah 57

1See how the righteous man perishes, and no one takes it to heart. Righteous men are taken away, and no one notices it; and the righteous man is taken away from the presence of wrongdoing.

ἴδετε ὡς ὁ δίκαιος ἀπώλετο καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐκδέχεται τῇ καρδίᾳ καὶ ἄνδρες δίκαιοι αἴρονται καὶ οὐδεὶς κατανοεῖ ἀπὸ γὰρ προσώπου ἀδικίας ἦρται ὁ δίκαιος

2His burial shall be in peace, for he was taken from the midst of it.

ἔσται ἐν εἰρήνῃ ἡ ταφὴ αὐτοῦ ἦρται ἐκ τοῦ μέσου

3'But come here, you lawless sons, a seed of adulterers and of a prostitute.

ὑμεῖς δὲ προσαγάγετε ὧδε υἱοὶ ἄνομοι σπέρμα μοιχῶν καὶ πόρνης

4In whom did you delight? And against whom did you open your mouth? Against whom did you loosen your tongue? Are you not the children of destruction, a lawless seed?

ἐν τίνι ἐνετρυφήσατε καὶ ἐπὶ τίνα ἠνοίξατε τὸ στόμα ὑμῶν καὶ ἐπὶ τίνα ἐχαλάσατε τὴν γλῶσσαν ὑμῶν οὐχ ὑμεῖς ἐστε τέκνα ἀπωλείας σπέρμα ἄνομον

5You are those who call upon their idols under leafy trees and slay their children in the midst of the rocks.

οἱ παρακαλοῦντες ἐπὶ τὰ εἴδωλα ὑπὸ δένδρα δασέα σφάζοντες τὰ τέκνα αὐτῶν ἐν ταῖς φάραγξιν ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν πετρῶν

6That is your portion, this is your lot, for you poured out drink offerings to them, and to them you offered up sacrifices; therefore, shall I not be angry for these things?

ἐκείνη σου ἡ μερίς οὗτός σου ὁ κλῆρος κἀκείνοις ἐξέχεας σπονδὰς κἀκείνοις ἀνήνεγκας θυσίας ἐπὶ τούτοις οὖν οὐκ ὀργισθήσομαι

7On a high and lofty mountain, there was your bed, and there you carried up your sacrifices.

ἐπ᾿ ὄρος ὑψηλὸν καὶ μετέωρον ἐκεῖ σου ἡ κοίτη κἀκεῖ ἀνεβίβασας θυσίας

8Also behind the posts of your door, you put your memorials. You supposed if you departed from Me, it would be a better thing. You loved those who slept with you,

καὶ ὀπίσω τῶν σταθμῶν τῆς θύρας σου ἔθηκας μνημόσυνά σου ᾤου ὅτι ἐὰν ἀπ᾿ ἐμοῦ ἀποστῇς πλεῖόν τι ἕξεις ἠγάπησας τοὺς κοιμωμένους μετὰ σοῦ

9and multiplied your fornication with them. You increased their number far away from you, and sent ambassadors beyond your borders. You turned aside and humbled yourselves, even to Hades.

καὶ ἐπλήθυνας τὴν πορνείαν σου μετ᾿ αὐτῶν καὶ πολλοὺς ἐποίησας τοὺς μακρὰν ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ ἀπέστειλας πρέσβεις ὑπὲρ τὰ ὅριά σου καὶ ἀπέστρεψας καὶ ἐταπεινώθης ἕως ᾅδου

10You grew weary with many ways, but you did not say, 'I will cease strengthening myself,' for you practiced these things; therefore, you did not supplicate Me.

ταῖς πολυοδίαις σου ἐκοπίασας καὶ οὐκ εἶπας παύσομαι ἐνισχύουσα ὅτι ἔπραξας ταῦτα διὰ τοῦτο οὐ κατεδεήθης μου

11Whom did you respect and fear, so as to lie to Me, and not remember Me, nor take Me into your heart and mind? So when I see you, I disregard you, for you do not fear Me.

σύ τίνα εὐλαβηθεῖσα ἐφοβήθης καὶ ἐψεύσω με καὶ οὐκ ἐμνήσθης μου οὐδὲ ἔλαβές με εἰς τὴν διάνοιαν οὐδὲ εἰς τὴν καρδίαν σου κἀγώ σε ἰδὼν παρορῶ καὶ ἐμὲ οὐκ ἐφοβήθης

12And I will declare My righteousness, and your evils, which will not profit you.

κἀγὼ ἀπαγγελῶ τὴν δικαιοσύνην μου καὶ τὰ κακά σου ἃ οὐκ ὠφελήσουσίν σε

13When you cry out, let them deliver you in your tribulation, for wind and storm will take them and carry them all away. But those who hold fast to Me shall possess the land and inherit My holy mountain.

ὅταν ἀναβοήσῃς ἐξελέσθωσάν σε ἐν τῇ θλίψει σου τούτους γὰρ πάντας ἄνεμος λήμψεται καὶ ἀποίσει καταιγίς οἱ δὲ ἀντεχόμενοί μου κτήσονται γῆν καὶ κληρονομήσουσιν τὸ ὄρος τὸ ἅγιόν μου

14They shall say, 'Cleanse the ways before His face, and take away the obstacles from the way of My people.' '

καὶ ἐροῦσιν καθαρίσατε ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ ὁδοὺς καὶ ἄρατε σκῶλα ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ τοῦ λαοῦ μου

15The Lord, the Most High who dwells on high forever, the Holy One among His saints, whose name is the Lord Most High, who rests among His saints, and who gives patience to the fainthearted and life to the broken-hearted, says this:

τάδε λέγει κύριος ὁ ὕψιστος ὁ ἐν ὑψηλοῖς κατοικῶν τὸν αἰῶνα ἅγιος ἐν ἁγίοις ὄνομα αὐτῷ κύριος ὕψιστος ἐν ἁγίοις ἀναπαυόμενος καὶ ὀλιγοψύχοις διδοὺς μακροθυμίαν καὶ διδοὺς ζωὴν τοῖς συντετριμμένοις τὴν καρδίαν

16'I will not punish you forever, nor will I always be angry with you, for My Spirit shall go forth from Me, and I made every breath.

οὐκ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ἐκδικήσω ὑμᾶς οὐδὲ διὰ παντὸς ὀργισθήσομαι ὑμῖν πνεῦμα γὰρ παρ᾿ ἐμοῦ ἐξελεύσεται καὶ πνοὴν πᾶσαν ἐγὼ ἐποίησα

17Because of sin for a time I grieved him, and struck him, and turned away My face from him; and he was grieved, and he went on sorrowful in his ways.

δι᾿ ἁμαρτίαν βραχύ τι ἐλύπησα αὐτὸν καὶ ἐπάταξα αὐτὸν καὶ ἀπέστρεψα τὸ πρόσωπόν μου ἀπ᾿ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐλυπήθη καὶ ἐπορεύθη στυγνὸς ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτοῦ

18I saw his ways, and healed him; and I comforted him, and gave him true comfort.

τὰς ὁδοὺς αὐτοῦ ἑώρακα καὶ ἰασάμην αὐτὸν καὶ παρεκάλεσα αὐτὸν καὶ ἔδωκα αὐτῷ παράκλησιν ἀληθινήν

19There is peace upon peace to those far off and those near; and the Lord says, 'I will heal them.'

εἰρήνην ἐπ᾿ εἰρήνην τοῖς μακρὰν καὶ τοῖς ἐγγὺς οὖσιν καὶ εἶπεν κύριος ἰάσομαι αὐτούς

20But wrongdoers shall be tossed here and there by waves, and be unable to rest.

οἱ δὲ ἄδικοι οὕτως κλυδωνισθήσονται καὶ ἀναπαύσασθαι οὐ δυνήσονται

21There is no joy to the ungodly,' says the Lord God.

οὐκ ἔστιν χαίρειν τοῖς ἀσεβέσιν εἶπεν κύριος ὁ θεός
