Ezekiel 17

1Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρός με λέγων

2'Son of man, pose a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel.

υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου διήγησαι διήγημα καὶ εἰπὸν παραβολὴν πρὸς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Ισραηλ

3You shall say, 'Thus says the Lord: 'A great eagle—with large wings, spreading them out very far, and full of talons, and with the design to enter Lebanon—took the choice branches of the cedar.

καὶ ἐρεῖς τάδε λέγει κύριος ὁ ἀετὸς ὁ μέγας ὁ μεγαλοπτέρυγος ὁ μακρὸς τῇ ἐκτάσει πλήρης ὀνύχων ὃς ἔχει τὸ ἥγημα εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὸν Λίβανον καὶ ἔλαβε τὰ ἐπίλεκτα τῆς κέδρου

4He nipped off its topmost tender twig, carried it to the land of Canaan, and set it in the fortified city.

τὰ ἄκρα τῆς ἁπαλότητος ἀπέκνισεν καὶ ἤνεγκεν αὐτὰ εἰς γῆν Χανααν εἰς πόλιν τετειχισμένην ἔθετο αὐτά

5Then he took some of the seed of the land, planted it in a fertile field by much water, and set it in a conspicuous place.

καὶ ἔλαβεν ἀπὸ τοῦ σπέρματος τῆς γῆς καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὸ εἰς τὸ πεδίον φυτὸν ἐφ᾿ ὕδατι πολλῷ ἐπιβλεπόμενον ἔταξεν αὐτό

6So it grew and became a weak vine, small in size as to its appearance. Its branches were on it and its roots under it. So it became a vine, put forth shoots, and extended into a vine that grows up trees.

καὶ ἀνέτειλεν καὶ ἐγένετο εἰς ἄμπελον ἀσθενοῦσαν καὶ μικρὰν τῷ μεγέθει τοῦ ἐπιφαίνεσθαι αὐτήν τὰ κλήματα αὐτῆς ἐπ᾿ αὐτὴν καὶ αἱ ῥίζαι αὐτῆς ὑποκάτω αὐτῆς ἦσαν καὶ ἐγένετο εἰς ἄμπελον καὶ ἐποίησεν ἀπώρυγας καὶ ἐξέτεινεν τὴν ἀναδενδράδα αὐτῆς

7'But there was another great eagle with large wings and many talons; and behold, this vine and her roots turned itself toward him, and stretched its branches toward him, that he might water it together with the soil where it was planted.

καὶ ἐγένετο ἀετὸς ἕτερος μέγας μεγαλοπτέρυγος πολὺς ὄνυξιν καὶ ἰδοὺ ἡ ἄμπελος αὕτη περιπεπλεγμένη πρὸς αὐτόν καὶ αἱ ῥίζαι αὐτῆς πρὸς αὐτόν καὶ τὰ κλήματα αὐτῆς ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτῷ τοῦ ποτίσαι αὐτὴν σὺν τῷ βώλῳ τῆς φυτείας αὐτῆς

8She thrives in a good field by much water, so as to produce shoots and bear fruit, that she may be a large vine.' '

εἰς πεδίον καλὸν ἐφ᾿ ὕδατι πολλῷ αὕτη πιαίνεται τοῦ ποιεῖν βλαστοὺς καὶ φέρειν καρπὸν τοῦ εἶναι εἰς ἄμπελον μεγάλην

9'Therefore say, 'Thus says the Lord: 'Will it prosper? Will not the roots of her tender stem and fruit be blighted, and all its shoots be withered? Yes, no mighty arm or many people will be needed to pluck it up by its roots.

διὰ τοῦτο εἰπόν τάδε λέγει κύριος εἰ κατευθυνεῖ οὐχὶ αἱ ῥίζαι τῆς ἁπαλότητος αὐτῆς καὶ ὁ καρπὸς σαπήσεται καὶ ξηρανθήσεται πάντα τὰ προανατέλλοντα αὐτῆς καὶ οὐκ ἐν βραχίονι μεγάλῳ οὐδ᾿ ἐν λαῷ πολλῷ τοῦ ἐκσπάσαι αὐτὴν ἐκ ῥιζῶν αὐτῆς

10Behold, it thrives, but will it prosper? Will it not utterly wither when the wind and burning heat touch it? It shall be dried up, its growth together with it soil.' ' '

καὶ ἰδοὺ πιαίνεται μὴ κατευθυνεῖ οὐχ ἅμα τῷ ἅψασθαι αὐτῆς ἄνεμον τὸν καύσωνα ξηρανθήσεται ξηρασίᾳ σὺν τῷ βώλῳ ἀνατολῆς αὐτῆς ξηρανθήσεται

11Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρός με λέγων

12'Son of man, say now to the house that provokes, 'Do you not understand what these things mean?' Tell them, 'When the king of Babylon comes to Jerusalem, he will take its king and rulers, and take them with himself to Babylon.

υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου εἰπὸν δὴ πρὸς τὸν οἶκον τὸν παραπικραίνοντα οὐκ ἐπίστασθε τί ἦν ταῦτα εἰπόν ὅταν ἔλθῃ βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος ἐπὶ Ιερουσαλημ καὶ λήμψεται τὸν βασιλέα αὐτῆς καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας αὐτῆς καὶ ἄξει αὐτοὺς πρὸς ἑαυτὸν εἰς Βαβυλῶνα

13He will also take one from the royal seed, and make a covenant with him, and place him under oath.

καὶ λήμψεται ἐκ τοῦ σπέρματος τῆς βασιλείας καὶ διαθήσεται πρὸς αὐτὸν διαθήκην καὶ εἰσάξει αὐτὸν ἐν ἀρᾷ καὶ τοὺς ἡγουμένους τῆς γῆς λήμψεται

14Then he will take away the leaders of the land that it may become a weak kingdom, so as never to lift itself up, that he may preserve his covenant and establish it.

τοῦ γενέσθαι εἰς βασιλείαν ἀσθενῆ τὸ καθόλου μὴ ἐπαίρεσθαι τοῦ φυλάσσειν τὴν διαθήκην αὐτοῦ καὶ ἱστάνειν αὐτήν

15But this one shall revolt from him and send his messengers to Egypt, so they might give him horses and many people. Will he prosper? Will he who acts as an adversary escape? Can he break the covenant and be delivered?

καὶ ἀποστήσεται ἀπ᾿ αὐτοῦ τοῦ ἐξαποστέλλειν ἀγγέλους ἑαυτοῦ εἰς Αἴγυπτον τοῦ δοῦναι αὐτῷ ἵππους καὶ λαὸν πολύν εἰ κατευθυνεῖ εἰ διασωθήσεται ὁ ποιῶν ἐναντία καὶ παραβαίνων διαθήκην εἰ σωθήσεται

16As I live,' says the Lord, 'he shall certainly die in the midst of Babylon, in the place where the king dwells who made him king, who dishonored My oath and broke My covenant.

ζῶ ἐγώ λέγει κύριος ἐὰν μὴ ἐν ᾧ τόπῳ ὁ βασιλεὺς ὁ βασιλεύσας αὐτόν ὃς ἠτίμωσεν τὴν ἀράν μου καὶ ὃς παρέβη τὴν διαθήκην μου μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ ἐν μέσῳ Βαβυλῶνος τελευτήσει

17But with a small army and few people, Pharaoh shall wage war against him by throwing up a mound and building engines of war, so as to carry away souls.

καὶ οὐκ ἐν δυνάμει μεγάλῃ οὐδ᾿ ἐν ὄχλῳ πολλῷ ποιήσει πρὸς αὐτὸν Φαραω πόλεμον ἐν χαρακοβολίᾳ καὶ ἐν οἰκοδομῇ βελοστάσεων τοῦ ἐξᾶραι ψυχάς

18So he will not escape when he does all these things to him, because he dishonored the oath by breaking the covenant, although he gave his hand in trust.'

καὶ ἠτίμωσεν ὁρκωμοσίαν τοῦ παραβῆναι διαθήκην καὶ ἰδοὺ δέδωκεν τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντα ταῦτα ἐποίησεν αὐτῷ μὴ σωθήσεται

19Therefore say, 'Thus says the Lord: 'As I live, surely My covenant which he broke and My oath which he dishonored—I will recompense these things on his head.

διὰ τοῦτο εἰπόν τάδε λέγει κύριος ζῶ ἐγὼ ἐὰν μὴ τὴν διαθήκην μου ἣν παρέβη καὶ τὴν ὁρκωμοσίαν μου ἣν ἠτίμωσεν καὶ δώσω αὐτὰ εἰς κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ

20I will spread My net over him, and he shall be caught in its enclosure.

καὶ ἐκπετάσω ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸν τὸ δίκτυόν μου καὶ ἁλώσεται ἐν τῇ περιοχῇ αὐτοῦ

21His whole line of battle will fall by the sword, and those who remain I will scatter to every wind. Then you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken.' '

ἐν πάσῃ παρατάξει αὐτοῦ ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ πεσοῦνται καὶ τοὺς καταλοίπους εἰς πάντα ἄνεμον διασπερῶ καὶ ἐπιγνώσεσθε διότι ἐγὼ κύριος λελάληκα

22'Therefore, thus says the Lord: 'I shall take the choice branches of the cedar from its top and nip off their heart, and plant it on a high mountain.

διότι τάδε λέγει κύριος καὶ λήμψομαι ἐγὼ ἐκ τῶν ἐπιλέκτων τῆς κέδρου ἐκ κορυφῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν ἀποκνιῶ καὶ καταφυτεύσω ἐγὼ ἐπ᾿ ὄρος ὑψηλόν καὶ κρεμάσω αὐτὸν

23I shall hang it on a lofty mountain of Israel, yes, I will plant it; and it will bring forth shoots, produce fruit, and be a great cedar. Under it, every kind of wild animal will take rest, every kind of bird will rest in its shade, and its branches will be restored.

ἐν ὄρει μετεώρῳ τοῦ Ισραηλ καὶ καταφυτεύσω καὶ ἐξοίσει βλαστὸν καὶ ποιήσει καρπὸν καὶ ἔσται εἰς κέδρον μεγάλην καὶ ἀναπαύσεται ὑποκάτω αὐτοῦ πᾶν θηρίον καὶ πᾶν πετεινὸν ὑπὸ τὴν σκιὰν αὐτοῦ ἀναπαύσεται τὰ κλήματα αὐτοῦ ἀποκατασταθήσεται

24So all the trees of the field will know that I, the Lord, am He who humbles the high tree and exalts the humble tree, who dries up the green tree and makes the dry tree flourish. I, the Lord, have spoken and will do it.' '

καὶ γνώσονται πάντα τὰ ξύλα τοῦ πεδίου διότι ἐγὼ κύριος ὁ ταπεινῶν ξύλον ὑψηλὸν καὶ ὑψῶν ξύλον ταπεινὸν καὶ ξηραίνων ξύλον χλωρὸν καὶ ἀναθάλλων ξύλον ξηρόν ἐγὼ κύριος λελάληκα καὶ ποιήσω
