1 Chronicles 29

1Furthermore, King David said to the entire assembly, "My one son Solomon, whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is a great work, for the temple is not for man, but for the Lord God.

καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ ὁ βασιλεὺς πάσῃ τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ Σαλωμων ὁ υἱός μου εἷς ὃν ᾑρέτικεν ἐν αὐτῷ κύριος νέος καὶ ἁπαλός καὶ τὸ ἔργον μέγα ὅτι οὐκ ἀνθρώπῳ ἡ οἰκοδομή ἀλλ᾿ ἢ κυρίῳ θεῷ

2According to all means possible I prepared gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, onyx stones, costly and precious stones of various colors, and much marble for the house of my God.

κατὰ πᾶσαν τὴν δύναμιν ἡτοίμακα εἰς οἶκον θεοῦ μου χρυσίον ἀργύριον χαλκόν σίδηρον ξύλα λίθους σοομ καὶ πληρώσεως καὶ λίθους πολυτελεῖς καὶ ποικίλους καὶ πάντα λίθον τίμιον καὶ πάριον πολύν

3And because I took pleasure in the house of my God, I gave to the house of my God gold and silver over and above what I procured for myself; more than all I prepared for my house of my God, over and above all I prepared for my consecrated house.

καὶ ἔτι ἐν τῷ εὐδοκῆσαί με ἐν οἴκῳ θεοῦ μου ἔστιν μοι ὃ περιπεποίημαι χρυσίον καὶ ἀργύριον καὶ ἰδοὺ δέδωκα εἰς οἶκον θεοῦ μου εἰς ὕψος ἐκτὸς ὧν ἡτοίμακα εἰς τὸν οἶκον τῶν ἁγίων

4Three thousand talents of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver to be overlaid in these the walls of the sanctuary

τρισχίλια τάλαντα χρυσίου τοῦ ἐκ Σουφιρ καὶ ἑπτακισχίλια τάλαντα ἀργυρίου δοκίμου ἐξαλειφθῆναι ἐν αὐτοῖς τοὺς τοίχους τοῦ ἱεροῦ

5by the hands of craftsmen. And who this day zealously dedicates his hands for the Lord?'

διὰ χειρὸς τεχνιτῶν καὶ τίς ὁ προθυμούμενος πληρῶσαι τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ σήμερον κυρίῳ

6Then the heads of the families, the princes of the sons of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the officers over the king's work, offered willingly.

καὶ προεθυμήθησαν ἄρχοντες τῶν πατριῶν καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ καὶ οἱ χιλίαρχοι καὶ οἱ ἑκατόνταρχοι καὶ οἱ προστάται τῶν ἔργων καὶ οἱ οἰκονόμοι τοῦ βασιλέως

7They gave for the work of the house of God five thousand talents of gold and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron.

καὶ ἔδωκαν εἰς τὰ ἔργα οἴκου κυρίου χρυσίου τάλαντα πεντακισχίλια καὶ χρυσοῦς μυρίους καὶ ἀργυρίου ταλάντων δέκα χιλιάδας καὶ χαλκοῦ τάλαντα μύρια ὀκτακισχίλια καὶ σιδήρου ταλάντων χιλιάδας ἑκατόν

8And whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the Lord, into the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.

καὶ οἷς εὑρέθη παρ᾿ αὐτοῖς λίθος ἔδωκαν εἰς τὰς ἀποθήκας οἴκου κυρίου διὰ χειρὸς Ιιηλ τοῦ Γηρσωνι

9Then the people rejoiced as a result of their willingness, for they offered willingly to the Lord with their whole heart. King David rejoiced greatly.

καὶ εὐφράνθη ὁ λαὸς ὑπὲρ τοῦ προθυμηθῆναι ὅτι ἐν καρδίᾳ πλήρει προεθυμήθησαν τῷ κυρίῳ καὶ Δαυιδ ὁ βασιλεὺς εὐφράνθη μεγάλως

10With this, King David blessed the Lord before all the assembly, saying, 'Blessed are You, O Lord God of Israel, our Father, unto the ages of ages.

καὶ εὐλόγησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Δαυιδ τὸν κύριον ἐνώπιον τῆς ἐκκλησίας λέγων εὐλογητὸς εἶ κύριε ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ ὁ πατὴρ ἡμῶν ἀπὸ τοῦ αἰῶνος καὶ ἕως τοῦ αἰῶνος

11Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the might. You are master over all that is in heaven and on the earth. Every king and nation is thrown into confusion before You.

σοί κύριε ἡ μεγαλωσύνη καὶ ἡ δύναμις καὶ τὸ καύχημα καὶ ἡ νίκη καὶ ἡ ἰσχύς ὅτι σὺ πάντων τῶν ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς δεσπόζεις ἀπὸ προσώπου σου ταράσσεται πᾶς βασιλεὺς καὶ ἔθνος

12From the first, You are the wealth and the glory who reigns over all, as the Lord and dominion of all. In Your hand is power and authority, and you are almighty with Your hand to increase and establish all things.

παρὰ σοῦ ὁ πλοῦτος καὶ ἡ δόξα σὺ πάντων ἄρχεις κύριε ὁ ἄρχων πάσης ἀρχῆς καὶ ἐν χειρί σου ἰσχὺς καὶ δυναστεία καὶ ἐν χειρί σου παντοκράτωρ μεγαλῦναι καὶ κατισχῦσαι τὰ πάντα

13And now, Lord, we give thanks to You, and we praise Your glorious name.

καὶ νῦν κύριε ἐξομολογούμεθά σοι καὶ αἰνοῦμεν τὸ ὄνομα τῆς καυχήσεώς σου

14'But who am I, and who are my people, that we are able to be zealous in offering to You? For all things are Yours, and of Your own we give to You.

καὶ τίς εἰμι ἐγὼ καὶ τίς ὁ λαός μου ὅτι ἰσχύσαμεν προθυμηθῆναί σοι κατὰ ταῦτα ὅτι σὰ τὰ πάντα καὶ ἐκ τῶν σῶν δεδώκαμέν σοι

15For we are strangers before You and sojourners, as were all our fathers. Our days upon the earth are as a shadow, and there are none that remain.

ὅτι πάροικοί ἐσμεν ἐναντίον σου καὶ παροικοῦντες ὡς πάντες οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν ὡς σκιὰ αἱ ἡμέραι ἡμῶν ἐπὶ γῆς καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ὑπομονή

16O Lord our God, as for all this abundance which I have prepared that a house should be built to Your holy name, it is of Your hand and all is Yours.

κύριε ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν πᾶν τὸ πλῆθος τοῦτο ὃ ἡτοίμακα οἰκοδομηθῆναι οἶκον τῷ ὀνόματι τῷ ἁγίῳ σου ἐκ χειρός σού ἐστιν καὶ σοὶ τὰ πάντα

17I know also, O Lord, that You search the heart and You love righteousness. As for me, in the sincerity of my heart I willingly offer all these things. And now I see Your people who brought themselves here joyfully to offer willingly to You.

καὶ ἔγνων κύριε ὅτι σὺ εἶ ὁ ἐτάζων καρδίας καὶ δικαιοσύνην ἀγαπᾷς ἐν ἁπλότητι καρδίας προεθυμήθην πάντα ταῦτα καὶ νῦν τὸν λαόν σου τὸν εὑρεθέντα ὧδε εἶδον ἐν εὐφροσύνῃ προθυμηθέντα σοι

18O Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep under guard these things in the thoughts of the heart of Your people forever, and lead their heart toward You.

κύριε ὁ θεὸς Αβρααμ καὶ Ισαακ καὶ Ισραηλ τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν φύλαξον ταῦτα ἐν διανοίᾳ καρδίας λαοῦ σου εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα καὶ κατεύθυνον τὰς καρδίας αὐτῶν πρὸς σέ

19And give my son Solomon a fitting heart to keep Your commandments and Your testimonies and Your ordinances and bring to an end the final preparation of Your house.'

καὶ Σαλωμων τῷ υἱῷ μου δὸς καρδίαν ἀγαθὴν ποιεῖν τὰς ἐντολάς σου καὶ τὰ μαρτύριά σου καὶ τὰ προστάγματά σου καὶ τοῦ ἐπὶ τέλος ἀγαγεῖν τὴν κατασκευὴν τοῦ οἴκου σου

20Then David said to all the congregation, 'Now bless the Lord your God.' And everyone in the congregation blessed the Lord God of their fathers, and bowed down before the Lord and the king.

καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πάσῃ τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ εὐλογήσατε κύριον τὸν θεὸν ὑμῶν καὶ εὐλόγησεν πᾶσα ἡ ἐκκλησία κύριον τὸν θεὸν τῶν πατέρων αὐτῶν καὶ κάμψαντες τὰ γόνατα προσεκύνησαν τῷ κυρίῳ καὶ τῷ βασιλεῖ

21The next day after the first day, David sacrificed and offered up whole burnt offerings to the Lord—even a thousand calves, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs—along with their drink offerings, and an abundance of sacrifices for all Israel.

καὶ ἔθυσεν Δαυιδ τῷ κυρίῳ θυσίας καὶ ἀνήνεγκεν ὁλοκαυτώματα τῷ θεῷ τῇ ἐπαύριον τῆς πρώτης ἡμέρας μόσχους χιλίους κριοὺς χιλίους ἄρνας χιλίους καὶ τὰς σπονδὰς αὐτῶν καὶ θυσίας εἰς πλῆθος παντὶ τῷ Ισραηλ

22So they ate and drank before the Lord with great gladness on that day. And they made Solomon the son of David king a second time and anointed him king before the Lord, and Zadok to the priesthood.

καὶ ἔφαγον καὶ ἔπιον ἐναντίον κυρίου ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ μετὰ χαρᾶς καὶ ἐβασίλευσαν ἐκ δευτέρου τὸν Σαλωμων υἱὸν Δαυιδ καὶ ἔχρισαν αὐτὸν τῷ κυρίῳ εἰς βασιλέα καὶ Σαδωκ εἰς ἱερωσύνην

23Then Solomon sat upon the throne of David his father, and was well pleased, and prospered; and all Israel listened to him.

καὶ ἐκάθισεν Σαλωμων ἐπὶ θρόνου Δαυιδ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ εὐδοκήθη καὶ ἐπήκουσαν αὐτοῦ πᾶς Ισραηλ

24All the leaders and the mighty men, as well as all the sons of King David his father, were subject to him.

οἱ ἄρχοντες καὶ οἱ δυνάσται καὶ πάντες υἱοὶ τοῦ βασιλέως Δαυιδ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ὑπετάγησαν αὐτῷ

25And the Lord exalted Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel and gave him the glory of a king, which was not given any king of Israel before him.

καὶ ἐμεγάλυνεν κύριος τὸν Σαλωμων ἐπάνωθεν ἐναντίον παντὸς Ισραηλ καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ δόξαν βασιλέως ὃ οὐκ ἐγένετο ἐπὶ παντὸς βασιλέως ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ

26Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over Israel

καὶ Δαυιδ υἱὸς Ιεσσαι ἐβασίλευσεν ἐπὶ Ισραηλ

27forty years, in Hebron for seven years and in Jerusalem for thirty-three years.

ἔτη τεσσαράκοντα ἐν Χεβρων ἔτη ἑπτὰ καὶ ἐν Ιερουσαλημ ἔτη τριάκοντα τρία

28So he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and glory. Solomon his son reigned in his stead.

καὶ ἐτελεύτησεν ἐν γήρει καλῷ πλήρης ἡμερῶν πλούτῳ καὶ δόξῃ καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν Σαλωμων υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀντ᾿ αὐτοῦ

29And the remaining works of King David, the former and the latter, are written in the book of Samuel the seer, in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer,

οἱ δὲ λοιποὶ λόγοι τοῦ βασιλέως Δαυιδ οἱ πρότεροι καὶ οἱ ὕστεροι γεγραμμένοι εἰσὶν ἐν λόγοις Σαμουηλ τοῦ βλέποντος καὶ ἐπὶ λόγων Ναθαν τοῦ προφήτου καὶ ἐπὶ λόγων Γαδ τοῦ βλέποντος

30concerning all his reign, his power, and the events that happened to him, to Israel, and to all the kingdoms of the lands.

περὶ πάσης τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ καὶ τῆς δυναστείας αὐτοῦ καὶ οἱ καιροί οἳ ἐγένοντο ἐπ᾿ αὐτῷ καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν Ισραηλ καὶ ἐπὶ πάσας βασιλείας τῆς γῆς
