1 Chronicles 23

1So when David was old and full of days, he made his son Solomon king over Israel.

καὶ Δαυιδ πρεσβύτης καὶ πλήρης ἡμερῶν καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν Σαλωμων τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἀντ᾿ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ Ισραηλ

2And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

καὶ συνήγαγεν τοὺς πάντας ἄρχοντας Ισραηλ καὶ τοὺς ἱερεῖς καὶ τοὺς Λευίτας

3Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and above. The number of individual males was thirty-eight thousand.

καὶ ἠριθμήθησαν οἱ Λευῖται ἀπὸ τριακονταετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω καὶ ἐγένετο ὁ ἀριθμὸς αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν εἰς ἄνδρας τριάκοντα καὶ ὀκτὼ χιλιάδας

4Of these, twenty-four thousand were taskmasters over the work of the house of the Lord, six thousand were officers and judges,

ἀπὸ τούτων ἐργοδιῶκται ἐπὶ τὰ ἔργα οἴκου κυρίου εἴκοσι τέσσαρες χιλιάδες καὶ γραμματεῖς καὶ κριταὶ ἑξακισχίλιοι

5four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand praised the Lord with musical instruments which he made to praise the Lord.

καὶ τέσσαρες χιλιάδες πυλωροὶ καὶ τέσσαρες χιλιάδες αἰνοῦντες τῷ κυρίῳ ἐν τοῖς ὀργάνοις οἷς ἐποίησεν τοῦ αἰνεῖν τῷ κυρίῳ

6David also separated them into divisions among the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

καὶ διεῖλεν αὐτοὺς Δαυιδ ἐφημερίας τοῖς υἱοῖς Λευι τῷ Γεδσων Κααθ Μεραρι

7And to Paroshom, to Edan, and to Shimei.

καὶ τῷ Παροσωμ τῷ Εδαν καὶ τῷ Σεμεϊ

8The sons of Laadan: the first Jehiel, then Zetham and Joel, three in all.

υἱοὶ τῷ Εδαν ὁ ἄρχων Ιιηλ καὶ Ζεθομ καὶ Ιωηλ τρεῖς

9The sons of Shimei: Shelomith, Haziel, and Haran, three in all. These were the heads of the fathers' houses of Laadan.

υἱοὶ Σεμεϊ Σαλωμιθ καὶ Ιιηλ καὶ Αιδαν τρεῖς οὗτοι ἄρχοντες τῶν πατριῶν τῷ Εδαν

10And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These were the four sons of Shimei.

καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Σεμεϊ Ιεθ καὶ Ζιζα καὶ Ιωας καὶ Βερια οὗτοι υἱοὶ Σεμεϊ τέσσαρες

11Jahath was the first, and Zizah the second. As for Jeush and Beriah, they did not multiply sons, and they became but one reckoning, according to their father's house.

καὶ ἦν Ιεθ ὁ ἄρχων καὶ Ζιζα ὁ δεύτερος καὶ Ιωας καὶ Βερια οὐκ ἐπλήθυναν υἱοὺς καὶ ἐγένοντο εἰς οἶκον πατριᾶς εἰς ἐπίσκεψιν μίαν

12The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four in all.

υἱοὶ Κααθ Αμβραμ Ισσααρ Χεβρων Οζιηλ τέσσαρες

13The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was set apart that he should sanctify the holy of holies, that he and his sons forever should burn incense before the Lord, to minister and to offer prayers in His name forever.

υἱοὶ Αμβραμ Ααρων καὶ Μωυσῆς καὶ διεστάλη Ααρων τοῦ ἁγιασθῆναι ἅγια ἁγίων αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ ἕως αἰῶνος τοῦ θυμιᾶν ἐναντίον τοῦ κυρίου λειτουργεῖν καὶ ἐπεύχεσθαι ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ ἕως αἰῶνος

14Now the sons of Moses the man of God had been called to the tribe of Levi.

καὶ Μωυσῆς ἄνθρωπος τοῦ θεοῦ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ ἐκλήθησαν εἰς φυλὴν τοῦ Λευι

15The sons of Moses were Gershon and Eliezer.

υἱοὶ Μωυσῆ Γηρσαμ καὶ Ελιεζερ

16Of the sons of Gershon, Shebuel was the first.

υἱοὶ Γηρσαμ Σουβαηλ ὁ ἄρχων

17Of the descendants of Eliezer, Rehabiah was the first. And Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah greatly multiplied.

καὶ ἦσαν υἱοὶ τῷ Ελιεζερ Ρααβια ὁ ἄρχων καὶ οὐκ ἦσαν τῷ Ελιεζερ υἱοὶ ἕτεροι καὶ υἱοὶ Ρααβια ηὐξήθησαν εἰς ὕψος

18Of the sons of Izhar, Shelomith was the first.

υἱοὶ Ισσααρ Σαλωμωθ ὁ ἄρχων

19Of the sons of Hebron, Jeriah was the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

υἱοὶ Χεβρων Ιδουδ ὁ ἄρχων Αμαδια ὁ δεύτερος Οζιηλ ὁ τρίτος Ικεμιας ὁ τέταρτος

20Of the sons of Uzziel, Michah was the first and Jesshiah the second.

υἱοὶ Οζιηλ Μιχας ὁ ἄρχων καὶ Ισια ὁ δεύτερος

21The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar and Kish.

υἱοὶ Μεραρι Μοολι καὶ Μουσι υἱοὶ Μοολι Ελεαζαρ καὶ Κις

22And Eleazar died and had no sons, only daughters; and their brethren, the sons of Kish, took them as wives.

καὶ ἀπέθανεν Ελεαζαρ καὶ οὐκ ἦσαν αὐτῷ υἱοὶ ἀλλ᾿ ἢ θυγατέρες καὶ ἔλαβον αὐτὰς υἱοὶ Κις ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν

23The sons of Mushi were Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth, three in all.

υἱοὶ Μουσι Μοολι καὶ Εδερ καὶ Ιαριμωθ τρεῖς

24These were the sons of Levi according to the houses of their fathers, chiefs of their families according to the number in the household, according to their polls, who from the age of twenty years and older did the work for the service of the house of the Lord.

οὗτοι υἱοὶ Λευι κατ᾿ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν ἄρχοντες τῶν πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ τὴν ἐπίσκεψιν αὐτῶν κατὰ τὸν ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν ποιοῦντες τὰ ἔργα λειτουργίας οἴκου κυρίου ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω

25For David said, 'The Lord God of Israel has given rest to His people, and dwells in Jerusalem forever.'

ὅτι εἶπεν Δαυιδ κατέπαυσεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ καὶ κατεσκήνωσεν ἐν Ιερουσαλημ ἕως αἰῶνος

26And the Levites carried not the tabernacle nor all of its vessels for its ministry.

καὶ οἱ Λευῖται οὐκ ἦσαν αἴροντες τὴν σκηνὴν καὶ τὰ πάντα σκεύη αὐτῆς εἰς τὴν λειτουργίαν αὐτῆς

27For by the last words of David was the numbering of the Levites taken, from twenty years of age and older.

ὅτι ἐν τοῖς λόγοις Δαυιδ τοῖς ἐσχάτοις ἐστὶν ὁ ἀριθμὸς υἱῶν Λευι ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω

28For their duty was to help the sons of Aaron in the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts and in the chambers, in the purification of all holy things and the work of the service of the house of God;

ὅτι ἔστησεν αὐτοὺς ἐπὶ χεῖρα Ααρων τοῦ λειτουργεῖν ἐν οἴκῳ κυρίου ἐπὶ τὰς αὐλὰς καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ παστοφόρια καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν καθαρισμὸν τῶν πάντων ἁγίων καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ ἔργα λειτουργίας οἴκου τοῦ θεοῦ

29for the showbread and fine flour for the meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, the fried cake, and the dough, and for every measure;

εἰς τοὺς ἄρτους τῆς προθέσεως εἰς τὴν σεμίδαλιν τῆς θυσίας καὶ εἰς τὰ λάγανα τὰ ἄζυμα καὶ εἰς τήγανον καὶ εἰς τὴν πεφυραμένην καὶ εἰς πᾶν μέτρον

30to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at evening;

καὶ τοῦ στῆναι πρωὶ τοῦ αἰνεῖν ἐξομολογεῖσθαι τῷ κυρίῳ καὶ οὕτως τὸ ἑσπέρας

31and regularly before the Lord—at every presentation of a whole burnt offering to the Lord, on the Sabbaths, on the New Moons, and on the set feasts, as by the number according to the ordinance governing them.

καὶ ἐπὶ πάντων τῶν ἀναφερομένων ὁλοκαυτωμάτων τῷ κυρίῳ ἐν τοῖς σαββάτοις καὶ ἐν ταῖς νεομηνίαις καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἑορταῖς κατὰ ἀριθμὸν κατὰ τὴν κρίσιν ἐπ᾿ αὐτοῖς διὰ παντὸς τῷ κυρίῳ

32They are to keep charge of the tabernacle of witness, of the holy places, and the sons of Aaron their brethren, to minister in the house of the Lord.

καὶ φυλάξουσιν τὰς φυλακὰς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου καὶ τὰς φυλακὰς υἱῶν Ααρων ἀδελφῶν αὐτῶν τοῦ λειτουργεῖν ἐν οἴκῳ κυρίου
