Genesis 25

1Now Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah.

προσθέμενος δὲ Αβρααμ ἔλαβεν γυναῖκα ᾗ ὄνομα Χεττουρα

2So she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

ἔτεκεν δὲ αὐτῷ τὸν Ζεμραν καὶ τὸν Ιεξαν καὶ τὸν Μαδαν καὶ τὸν Μαδιαμ καὶ τὸν Ιεσβοκ καὶ τὸν Σωυε

3Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan. Thus the sons of Dedan were Ragouel, Nabdeed and the Asshurim, the Letushim, and the Leummim.

Ιεξαν δὲ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Σαβα καὶ τὸν Θαιμαν καὶ τὸν Δαιδαν υἱοὶ δὲ Δαιδαν ἐγένοντο Ραγουηλ καὶ Ναβδεηλ καὶ Ασσουριιμ καὶ Λατουσιιμ καὶ Λοωμιμ

4And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the sons of Keturah.

υἱοὶ δὲ Μαδιαμ Γαιφα καὶ Αφερ καὶ Ενωχ καὶ Αβιρα καὶ Ελραγα πάντες οὗτοι ἦσαν υἱοὶ Χεττουρας

5Now Abraham gave all his possessions to Isaac.

ἔδωκεν δὲ Αβρααμ πάντα τὰ ὑπάρχοντα αὐτοῦ Ισαακ τῷ υἱῷ αὐτοῦ

6But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of his concubines; and while he was still living, he sent them eastward, away from Isaac his son, to the country of the east.

καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς τῶν παλλακῶν αὐτοῦ ἔδωκεν Αβρααμ δόματα καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ Ισαακ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ ἔτι ζῶντος αὐτοῦ πρὸς ἀνατολὰς εἰς γῆν ἀνατολῶν

7After these things, the sum of years Abraham lived were one hundred and seventy-five years.

ταῦτα δὲ τὰ ἔτη ἡμερῶν ζωῆς Αβρααμ ὅσα ἔζησεν ἑκατὸν ἑβδομήκοντα πέντε ἔτη

8Then Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, old and full of days and was added to his people.

καὶ ἐκλιπὼν ἀπέθανεν Αβρααμ ἐν γήρει καλῷ πρεσβύτης καὶ πλήρης ἡμερῶν καὶ προσετέθη πρὸς τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ

9So his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, opposite Mamre, in the field of Ephron, the son of Zohar the Hittite,

καὶ ἔθαψαν αὐτὸν Ισαακ καὶ Ισμαηλ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ σπήλαιον τὸ διπλοῦν εἰς τὸν ἀγρὸν Εφρων τοῦ Σααρ τοῦ Χετταίου ὅ ἐστιν ἀπέναντι Μαμβρη

10the field and the cave Abraham purchased from the sons of Heth. There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife.

τὸν ἀγρὸν καὶ τὸ σπήλαιον ὃ ἐκτήσατο Αβρααμ παρὰ τῶν υἱῶν Χετ ἐκεῖ ἔθαψαν Αβρααμ καὶ Σαρραν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ

11Thus it came to pass, after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt at the Well of the Vision.

ἐγένετο δὲ μετὰ τὸ ἀποθανεῖν Αβρααμ εὐλόγησεν ὁ θεὸς Ισαακ τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ κατῴκησεν Ισαακ παρὰ τὸ φρέαρ τῆς ὁράσεως

12Now this is the genealogy of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar, Sarah's maidservant, bore to Abraham.

αὗται δὲ αἱ γενέσεις Ισμαηλ τοῦ υἱοῦ Αβρααμ ὃν ἔτεκεν Αγαρ ἡ παιδίσκη Σαρρας τῷ Αβρααμ

13These were the names of Ishmael's sons, by their names, according to their families: Ishmael's firstborn, Nebajoth; then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,

καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν υἱῶν Ισμαηλ κατ᾿ ὄνομα τῶν γενεῶν αὐτοῦ πρωτότοκος Ισμαηλ Ναβαιωθ καὶ Κηδαρ καὶ Ναβδεηλ καὶ Μασσαμ

14Mishma, Dumah, Massa,

καὶ Μασμα καὶ Ιδουμα καὶ Μασση

15Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.

καὶ Χοδδαδ καὶ Θαιμαν καὶ Ιετουρ καὶ Ναφες καὶ Κεδμα

16These were the sons of Ishmael, and these were their names, by their towns and settlements, twelve princes according to their nations.

οὗτοί εἰσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισμαηλ καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα αὐτῶν ἐν ταῖς σκηναῖς αὐτῶν καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἐπαύλεσιν αὐτῶν δώδεκα ἄρχοντες κατὰ ἔθνη αὐτῶν

17These were the years of Ishmael's life: one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he breathed his last and died, and was added to his people.

καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ἔτη τῆς ζωῆς Ισμαηλ ἑκατὸν τριάκοντα ἑπτὰ ἔτη καὶ ἐκλιπὼν ἀπέθανεν καὶ προσετέθη πρὸς τὸ γένος αὐτοῦ

18(He dwelt opposite Egypt, from Havilah as far as Shur, as you go toward Assyria, and dwelt separate from all his brothers.)

κατῴκησεν δὲ ἀπὸ Ευιλατ ἕως Σουρ ἥ ἐστιν κατὰ πρόσωπον Αἰγύπτου ἕως ἐλθεῖν πρὸς Ἀσσυρίους κατὰ πρόσωπον πάντων τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ κατῴκησεν

19Now this is the genealogy of Isaac, Abraham's son. Abraham begot Isaac.

καὶ αὗται αἱ γενέσεις Ισαακ τοῦ υἱοῦ Αβρααμ Αβρααμ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ισαακ

20Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as his wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Mesopotamia, and the sister of Laban the Syrian.

ἦν δὲ Ισαακ ἐτῶν τεσσαράκοντα ὅτε ἔλαβεν τὴν Ρεβεκκαν θυγατέρα Βαθουηλ τοῦ Σύρου ἐκ τῆς Μεσοποταμίας ἀδελφὴν Λαβαν τοῦ Σύρου ἑαυτῷ γυναῖκα

21Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and God granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

ἐδεῖτο δὲ Ισαακ κυρίου περὶ Ρεβεκκας τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ ὅτι στεῖρα ἦν ἐπήκουσεν δὲ αὐτοῦ ὁ θεός καὶ ἔλαβεν ἐν γαστρὶ Ρεβεκκα ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ

22But the children struggled together within her; and she said, 'If all is well, why am I like this?' So she went to inquire of the Lord.

ἐσκίρτων δὲ τὰ παιδία ἐν αὐτῇ εἶπεν δέ εἰ οὕτως μοι μέλλει γίνεσθαι ἵνα τί μοι τοῦτο ἐπορεύθη δὲ πυθέσθαι παρὰ κυρίου

23And the Lord said to her: 'Two nations are in your womb, And two peoples shall be separated from your body.

καὶ εἶπεν κύριος αὐτῇ δύο ἔθνη ἐν τῇ γαστρί σού εἰσιν καὶ δύο λαοὶ ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας σου διασταλήσονται καὶ λαὸς λαοῦ ὑπερέξει καὶ ὁ μείζων δουλεύσει τῷ ἐλάσσονι

24One shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.' Thus, when her days were fulfilled to give birth, indeed, there were twins in her womb.

καὶ ἐπληρώθησαν αἱ ἡμέραι τοῦ τεκεῖν αὐτήν καὶ τῇδε ἦν δίδυμα ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ αὐτῆς

25Now the firstborn came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so she named him Esau.

ἐξῆλθεν δὲ ὁ υἱὸς ὁ πρωτότοκος πυρράκης ὅλος ὡσεὶ δορὰ δασύς ἐπωνόμασεν δὲ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ησαυ

26Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau's heel; so she called his name Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah bore them.

καὶ μετὰ τοῦτο ἐξῆλθεν ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ ἐπειλημμένη τῆς πτέρνης Ησαυ καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ιακωβ Ισαακ δὲ ἦν ἐτῶν ἑξήκοντα ὅτε ἔτεκεν αὐτοὺς Ρεβεκκα

27So the boys grew. Now Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a simple man, dwelling in tents.

ηὐξήθησαν δὲ οἱ νεανίσκοι καὶ ἦν Ησαυ ἄνθρωπος εἰδὼς κυνηγεῖν ἄγροικος Ιακωβ δὲ ἦν ἄνθρωπος ἄπλαστος οἰκῶν οἰκίαν

28Now Isaac loved Esau because he ate his venison, but Rebekah loved Jacob.

ἠγάπησεν δὲ Ισαακ τὸν Ησαυ ὅτι ἡ θήρα αὐτοῦ βρῶσις αὐτῷ Ρεβεκκα δὲ ἠγάπα τὸν Ιακωβ

29Then Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and was weary.

ἥψησεν δὲ Ιακωβ ἕψεμα ἦλθεν δὲ Ησαυ ἐκ τοῦ πεδίου ἐκλείπων

30So Esau said to Jacob, 'Let me taste this red stew, for I am exhausted.' Therefore his name was called Edom.

καὶ εἶπεν Ησαυ τῷ Ιακωβ γεῦσόν με ἀπὸ τοῦ ἑψέματος τοῦ πυρροῦ τούτου ὅτι ἐκλείπω διὰ τοῦτο ἐκλήθη τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Εδωμ

31But Jacob said to Esau, 'Sell me your birthright today.'

εἶπεν δὲ Ιακωβ τῷ Ησαυ ἀπόδου μοι σήμερον τὰ πρωτοτόκιά σου ἐμοί

32Esau replied, 'Look, I am about to die. What good then is this birthright to me?'

εἶπεν δὲ Ησαυ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ πορεύομαι τελευτᾶν καὶ ἵνα τί μοι ταῦτα τὰ πρωτοτόκια

33Then Jacob said, 'Swear to me today.' So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ιακωβ ὄμοσόν μοι σήμερον καὶ ὤμοσεν αὐτῷ ἀπέδοτο δὲ Ησαυ τὰ πρωτοτόκια τῷ Ιακωβ
