Wisdom of Solomon 1

1Love righteousness, you who judge on the earth. Think about the Lord in goodness And seek Him with sincerity of heart;

Ἀγαπήσατε δικαιοσύνην οἱ κρίνοντες τὴν γῆν φρονήσατε περὶ τοῦ κυρίου ἐν ἀγαθότητι καὶ ἐν ἁπλότητι καρδίας ζητήσατε αὐτόν

2Because He is found by those who do not tempt Him, And He is manifest to those who do not disbelieve Him.

ὅτι εὑρίσκεται τοῖς μὴ πειράζουσιν αὐτόν ἐμφανίζεται δὲ τοῖς μὴ ἀπιστοῦσιν αὐτῷ

3For dishonest reasoning separates people from God, And when His power examines someone, It convicts the undiscerning;

σκολιοὶ γὰρ λογισμοὶ χωρίζουσιν ἀπὸ θεοῦ δοκιμαζομένη τε ἡ δύναμις ἐλέγχει τοὺς ἄφρονας

4For wisdom will not enter the soul that plots evil, Nor will it dwell in a body involved in sin.

ὅτι εἰς κακότεχνον ψυχὴν οὐκ εἰσελεύσεται σοφία οὐδὲ κατοικήσει ἐν σώματι κατάχρεῳ ἁμαρτίας

5For a holy spirit of discipline flees from deceit And sends away undiscerning reasoning; It will put wrongdoing to shame when it comes near.

ἅγιον γὰρ πνεῦμα παιδείας φεύξεται δόλον καὶ ἀπαναστήσεται ἀπὸ λογισμῶν ἀσυνέτων καὶ ἐλεγχθήσεται ἐπελθούσης ἀδικίας

6For wisdom is a spirit that loves mankind, But she will punish a blasphemer because of his words; For God is the witness of his thoughts, The true examiner of his heart, and the hearer of his tongue;

φιλάνθρωπον γὰρ πνεῦμα σοφία καὶ οὐκ ἀθῳώσει βλάσφημον ἀπὸ χειλέων αὐτοῦ ὅτι τῶν νεφρῶν αὐτοῦ μάρτυς ὁ θεὸς καὶ τῆς καρδίας αὐτοῦ ἐπίσκοπος ἀληθὴς καὶ τῆς γλώσσης ἀκουστής

7Because the Spirit of the Lord fills the world, And He who holds all things together knows what is said.

ὅτι πνεῦμα κυρίου πεπλήρωκεν τὴν οἰκουμένην καὶ τὸ συνέχον τὰ πάντα γνῶσιν ἔχει φωνῆς

8Therefore no one who speaks unrighteous things Will escape notice, Nor will justice, when it cross-examines, pass him by.

διὰ τοῦτο φθεγγόμενος ἄδικα οὐδεὶς μὴ λάθῃ οὐδὲ μὴ παροδεύσῃ αὐτὸν ἐλέγχουσα ἡ δίκη

9For there shall be a close examination Into the deliberations of an ungodly man, And a report of his words will come to the Lord As proof of his lawlessness;

ἐν γὰρ διαβουλίοις ἀσεβοῦς ἐξέτασις ἔσται λόγων δὲ αὐτοῦ ἀκοὴ πρὸς κύριον ἥξει εἰς ἔλεγχον ἀνομημάτων αὐτοῦ

10For the zealous ear hears all things, And the noise of murmuring is not hidden.

ὅτι οὖς ζηλώσεως ἀκροᾶται τὰ πάντα καὶ θροῦς γογγυσμῶν οὐκ ἀποκρύπτεται

11Therefore keep yourself from useless murmuring And refrain your tongue from evil speech; For no secret word will go unpunished, And a lying mouth will destroy one's soul.

φυλάξασθε τοίνυν γογγυσμὸν ἀνωφελῆ καὶ ἀπὸ καταλαλιᾶς φείσασθε γλώσσης ὅτι φθέγμα λαθραῖον κενὸν οὐ πορεύσεται στόμα δὲ καταψευδόμενον ἀναιρεῖ ψυχήν

12Do not be zealous for death by the deceit of your life, Nor bring destruction upon yourself by the works of your hands.

μὴ ζηλοῦτε θάνατον ἐν πλάνῃ ζωῆς ὑμῶν μηδὲ ἐπισπᾶσθε ὄλεθρον ἐν ἔργοις χειρῶν ὑμῶν

13For God did not make death, Neither does He have pleasure over the destruction of the living.

ὅτι ὁ θεὸς θάνατον οὐκ ἐποίησεν οὐδὲ τέρπεται ἐπ᾿ ἀπωλείᾳ ζώντων

14For He created all things that they might exist, And the generations of the world so they might be preserved; For there was no poison of death in them, Nor was the reign of Hades on the earth.

ἔκτισεν γὰρ εἰς τὸ εἶναι τὰ πάντα καὶ σωτήριοι αἱ γενέσεις τοῦ κόσμου καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν αὐταῖς φάρμακον ὀλέθρου οὔτε ᾅδου βασίλειον ἐπὶ γῆς

15For righteousness does not die.

δικαιοσύνη γὰρ ἀθάνατός ἐστιν

16But the ungodly summoned death by their words and works; Although they thought death would be a friend, they were dissolved. For they made a covenant with death, Since they were deserving to share it in common.

ἀσεβεῖς δὲ ταῖς χερσὶν καὶ τοῖς λόγοις προσεκαλέσαντο αὐτόν φίλον ἡγησάμενοι αὐτὸν ἐτάκησαν καὶ συνθήκην ἔθεντο πρὸς αὐτόν ὅτι ἄξιοί εἰσιν τῆς ἐκείνου μερίδος εἶναι
