The Reader then intoneth the exapostilarion:
Irmos, Tone 6: Weep not for Me, O Mother, beholding in the tomb the Son Whom thou hast conceived without seed in the womb; for I shall arise and shall be glorified, and as God I shall exalt with glory unceasing those that with faith and love magnify thee.
The censing is done as at the previous litany.
Deacon: Again and again, in peace, let us pray to the Lord.
Grant rest, O Lord, unto the soul of Thy departed servant.
While the priest secretly says the prayer:
Choir: Lord, have mercy. Thrice.
Lament not, all ye who have died in faith, for Christ endured the Cross and burial in the flesh for our sake, and hath made children of immortality all who cry out to Him: Enter not into judgment with Thy servant!
Deacon: Again we pray for the repose of the departed servant of God N., and that he may be forgiven every transgression, both voluntary and involuntary.
Grant rest, O Lord, unto the soul of Thy departed servant.
Choir: Lord, have mercy. Thrice.
O ye faithful, let us earnestly pray to Christ, that He enrol in the mansions of the saints our brother who hath fallen asleep in faith and the hope of resurrection; for there the dread judgment will take place, and the awesome interrogation. And no one will be able to help himself, but only good works, and the communal prayer of the faithful. And let us cry aloud: Enter not into judgment with Thy servant!
Deacon: That the Lord God commit his souls to where the righteous repose.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Choir: Lord, have mercy. Thrice.
O Good One, in Thy glory which waxeth not old, and in the sweetness of paradise, enter him who hath now departed from us, as one who hath hastened to Thee in faith through Orthodoxy and repentance; and make of him a chosen advocate of Thy kingdom.
Deacon: The mercy of God, the kingdom of Heaven, and the remission of his sins, let us ask of Christ the Immortal King and our God.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Choir: Grant this, O Lord.
We, the faithful, piously hymn thee as her who in manner transcending nature became the Mother of life, O Virgin Theotokos; for through thee we, who before were dead, having become immortal, have found life. And lo! unto thee do we complete this hymn.
Deacon: Let us pray to the Lord
O God of spirits and of all flesh, Who hast trampled down death, and overthrown the devil, and given life to Thy world: Do Thou Thyself, O Lord, give rest to the soul of Thy departed servant N., in a place of light, a place of green pasture, a place of repose, whence all sickness, sorrow and sighing are fled away. Pardon every sin committed by him in word, deed, or thought, in that Thou art a good God, the Lover of mankind; for there is no man that liveth and sinneth not, for Thou alone art without sin, Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Thy word is truth.
Choir: Lord, have mercy.
Priest: For Thou art the Resurrection, and the life, and the repose of Thy departed servant, N., O Christ our God, and unto Thee do we send up glory, together with Thine unoriginate Father, and Thy most holy and good and life-creating Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages.
Choir: Amen.
Reader: Now have I been given rest, I have found great ease, for I have passed over from corruption and been translated unto life. O Lord, glory be to Thee!
Choir: Now have I been given rest, I have found great ease, for I have passed over from corruption and been translated unto life. O Lord, glory be to Thee!
Reader: As for man, his days are as the grass, as a flower of the field, so shall he blossom forth.
Choir: Now have I been given rest, I have found great ease, for I have passed over from corruption and been translated unto life. O Lord, glory be to Thee!
Reader: For when the wind is passed over it, then it shall be gone.
Choir: Now have I been given rest, I have found great ease, for I have passed over from corruption and been translated unto life. O Lord, glory be to Thee!
Reader: The truth of the Lord abideth forever.
Choir: Now have I been given rest, I have found great ease, for I have passed over from corruption and been translated unto life. O Lord, glory be to Thee!
Reader: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen. Now have I been chosen the Maiden Mother of God, for from her was Christ born, the Deliverer of all. O Lord, glory be to Thee!
