¶1

Short Form of Holy Baptism How to Baptize an Infant When It Is in Danger of Dying

¶2

Priest: Blessed is our God, always, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages.

¶3

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

¶4

Reader: Amen. Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. Thrice.

¶5

O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, blot out our sins. O Master, pardon our iniquities. O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for Thy name's sake.

¶6

Priest: For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory: of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages.

¶7

Lord have mercy. Thrice.

¶8

Reader: Amen.

¶9

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

¶10

Priest: Let us pray to the Lord!

¶11

Our Father, Who art in the Heavens, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

¶12

Reader: Lord, have mercy!

¶13

And straightway he poureth oil into the water.

¶14

Priest: O Lord God Almighty, the Author of all creation, both visible and invisible, Who didst make heaven, the earth and the sea, and all that is therein, Who didst gather the waters together in one place, Who didst close up the deep and seal it by Thy terrible and glorious name, Who didst raise up the waters to be above the heavens; Thou didst found the earth upon the waters; Thou hast established the sea by Thy might; Thou hast crushed the heads of the serpents in the waters. Thou art awesome; and who can shall oppose Thee? Look down, O Lord, upon this, Thy creature, and upon this water, and give it the grace of Jordan, make it a fountain of incorruption, a gift of sanctification, the absolution of sins, a remedy of all ailments, the destruction of demons, unassailable by hostile powers, filled with angelic might, let those who would ensnare Thy creature may flee far from it; for we have called upon Thy name, O Lord, and it is marvelous and glorious, and terrible unto adversaries.

¶15

The servant of God N. is baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

¶16

Then he baptizeth, saying:

¶17

And immediately he vesteth him, and annointeth (the child) with myrrh on the brow, the eyes, the nostrils, the lips, both ears, the breast, the hands, and the feet, saying with each:

¶18

Priest: Glory to Thee, O Christ God, our hope, glory to Thee.

¶19

The seal of the gift of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

¶20

Choir: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

¶21

After this, he goeth round with (the child) (if possible), chanting:

¶22

Priest: May Christ our true God, Who deigned to be baptized by John in the Jordan for our salvation, through the intercessions of His most pure Mother; of the holy and glorious apostles; and Saint(s) N.(N.) (to whom the church is dedicated); of (the patron of saint of the newly baptized); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God, Joachim and Anna; and of all the saints: have mercy on us and save us, for He is good and loveth mankind.

¶23

As many of ye as have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ. Alleluia! Thrice.

¶24

Choir: Amen.

¶25

Lord have mercy. Thrice.

¶26

Deacon: A prosperous and peaceful life, health and salvation, and good success in all things, grant, O Lord, to Thy newly-illumined servant(s) N.(N.), and to his (her) (their) sponsor(s) N., and preserve them for many years!

¶27

Father, bless.

¶28

Choir: Many Years! Thrice.
