Irmos, Tone 6: He Who in ancient times hid the pursuing tyrant beneath the waves of the sea, is hidden beneath the earth by the children of those whom once He saved. But let us, like the maidens, sing unto the Lord, for gloriously is He glorified.
Grant rest, O Lord, unto the soul of Thy departed servant.
Before Thee, O Christ, the Master of all, do we fervently fall down with tears, crying out this funeral hymn with weeping: Grant rest unto Thy faithful servant, in that Thou art compassionate.
Grant rest, O Lord, unto the soul of Thy departed servant.
O Word, vouchsafe that he who hath died in the hope of resurrection may stand at Thy right hand with Thine elect, we earnestly pray with a voice of praise, O Thou Who lovest mankind.
Grant rest, O Lord, unto the soul of Thy departed servant.
Vouchsafe that Thy chosen servant, who hath been translated from the earth, may rejoice radiantly in the honored heavenly kingdom, O Thou Who lovest mankind, overlooking the offenses of his soul, in that Thou art compassionate.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Woe is me! The glory of life is as grass: no sooner doth it spring forth, than it straightway withereth up. Where is rank in the grave? Where is form and beauty there? Wherefore, spare Thy servant, O Lord, in that Thou art compassionate.
Both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
As is meet, we all hymn thee with love, O all-pure Virgin Mary, Mother of God, for the eye of thy supplication is ever unsleeping. Deliver us now from our transgressions and the judgment of death.
