Joshua 23

1Now it came to pass that after many days, the Lord gave rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, and Joshua was old and advanced in years.

καὶ ἐγένετο μεθ᾿ ἡμέρας πλείους μετὰ τὸ καταπαῦσαι κύριον τὸν Ισραηλ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτῶν κυκλόθεν καὶ Ἰησοῦς πρεσβύτερος προβεβηκὼς ταῖς ἡμέραις

2So Joshua summoned all the children of Israel and their elders and leaders and their scribes and judges, and said to them, 'I am old and advanced in years,

καὶ συνεκάλεσεν Ἰησοῦς πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ καὶ τὴν γερουσίαν αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς γραμματεῖς αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς δικαστὰς αὐτῶν καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς ἐγὼ γεγήρακα καὶ προβέβηκα ταῖς ἡμέραις

3and you have seen everything the Lord your God did to all these nations before you, that the Lord your God is He who fought for you.

ὑμεῖς δὲ ἑωράκατε ὅσα ἐποίησεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν τούτοις ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν ὅτι κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν ὁ ἐκπολεμήσας ὑμῖν

4See, I have added to you these nations that are left to you by lots to your tribes, beginning at the Jordan and bordered by the Great Sea westward, all the nations I utterly destroyed before you.

ἴδετε ὅτι ἐπέρριφα ὑμῖν τὰ ἔθνη τὰ καταλελειμμένα ὑμῖν ταῦτα ἐν τοῖς κλήροις εἰς τὰς φυλὰς ὑμῶν ἀπὸ τοῦ Ιορδάνου πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἃ ἐξωλέθρευσα καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς θαλάσσης τῆς μεγάλης ὁριεῖ ἐπὶ δυσμὰς ἡλίου

5For the Lord your God, He will utterly destroy them before you until they perish, and He will send wild animals against them until He utterly destroys them and their kings from before you; and you shall inherit their land as the Lord your God said to you.

κύριος δὲ ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν οὗτος ἐξολεθρεύσει αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν ἕως ἂν ἀπόλωνται καὶ ἀποστελεῖ αὐτοῖς τὰ θηρία τὰ ἄγρια ἕως ἂν ἐξολεθρεύσῃ αὐτοὺς καὶ τοὺς βασιλεῖς αὐτῶν ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν καὶ κατακληρονομήσατε τὴν γῆν αὐτῶν καθὰ ἐλάλησεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν ὑμῖν

6Therefore strive diligently to keep and to do everything written in the Book of the Law of Moses, lest you turn aside from it to the right or to the left,

κατισχύσατε οὖν σφόδρα φυλάσσειν καὶ ποιεῖν πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τοῦ νόμου Μωυσῆ ἵνα μὴ ἐκκλίνητε εἰς δεξιὰν ἢ εὐώνυμα

7and lest you go among these nations, those that remain among you. The names of their gods shall not be mentioned among you, and neither shall you worship them, nor serve them;

ὅπως μὴ εἰσέλθητε εἰς τὰ ἔθνη τὰ καταλελειμμένα ταῦτα καὶ τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν θεῶν αὐτῶν οὐκ ὀνομασθήσεται ἐν ὑμῖν οὐδὲ μὴ προσκυνήσητε αὐτοῖς οὐδὲ μὴ λατρεύσητε αὐτοῖς

8but you shall cleave to the Lord your God, as you have done to this day.

ἀλλὰ κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ ὑμῶν προσκολληθήσεσθε καθάπερ ἐποιήσατε ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης

9For the Lord has utterly destroyed them before you, great and mighty nations, and no one has stood against you to this day.

καὶ ἐξωλέθρευσεν αὐτοὺς κύριος ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν ἔθνη μεγάλα καὶ ἰσχυρά καὶ ὑμῖν οὐθεὶς ἀντέστη κατενώπιον ὑμῶν ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης

10One of you has chased a thousand, for the Lord your God fought for you, as He said to you.

εἷς ὑμῶν ἐδίωξεν χιλίους ὅτι κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν ἐξεπολέμει ὑμῖν καθάπερ εἶπεν ὑμῖν

11Therefore take great heed to love the Lord your God.

καὶ φυλάξασθε σφόδρα τοῦ ἀγαπᾶν κύριον τὸν θεὸν ὑμῶν

12For if you turn away and attach yourselves to the remnant of these nations among you, and intermarry and become mingled with them and they with you,

ἐὰν γὰρ ἀποστραφῆτε καὶ προσθῆσθε τοῖς ὑπολειφθεῖσιν ἔθνεσιν τούτοις τοῖς μεθ᾿ ὑμῶν καὶ ἐπιγαμίας ποιήσητε πρὸς αὐτοὺς καὶ συγκαταμιγῆτε αὐτοῖς καὶ αὐτοὶ ὑμῖν

13know for certain that the Lord will no longer utterly destroy these nations before you; but they shall be snares and traps for you, and nails in your heels and darts in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the Lord your God has given you.

γινώσκετε ὅτι οὐ μὴ προσθῇ κύριος τοῦ ἐξολεθρεῦσαι τὰ ἔθνη ταῦτα ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν καὶ ἔσονται ὑμῖν εἰς παγίδας καὶ εἰς σκάνδαλα καὶ εἰς ἥλους ἐν ταῖς πτέρναις ὑμῶν καὶ εἰς βολίδας ἐν τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς ὑμῶν ἕως ἂν ἀπόλησθε ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς τῆς ἀγαθῆς ταύτης ἣν ἔδωκεν ὑμῖν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν

14'But I am going the way of all those on earth, and you shall know in your heart and soul that not one word has failed of all the words the Lord our God spoke concerning everything that pertains to you. Not one word of them has failed.

ἐγὼ δὲ ἀποτρέχω τὴν ὁδὸν καθὰ καὶ πάντες οἱ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ γνώσεσθε τῇ καρδίᾳ ὑμῶν καὶ τῇ ψυχῇ ὑμῶν διότι οὐ διέπεσεν εἷς λόγος ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν λόγων ὧν εἶπεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν πρὸς πάντα τὰ ἀνήκοντα ὑμῖν οὐ διεφώνησεν ἐξ αὐτῶν

15Therefore it shall come to pass that as all the good things came upon you which the Lord promised you, so the Lord God will bring upon you all the evil things, until He utterly destroys you from this good land which the Lord has given you,

καὶ ἔσται ὃν τρόπον ἥκει ἐφ᾿ ὑμᾶς πάντα τὰ ῥήματα τὰ καλά ἃ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς ὑμᾶς οὕτως ἐπάξει κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἐφ᾿ ὑμᾶς πάντα τὰ ῥήματα τὰ πονηρά ἕως ἂν ἐξολεθρεύσῃ ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς τῆς ἀγαθῆς ταύτης ἧς ἔδωκεν κύριος ὑμῖν

16when you transgress the covenant of the Lord your God which He commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and worship them.'

ἐν τῷ παραβῆναι ὑμᾶς τὴν διαθήκην κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ὑμῶν ἣν ἐνετείλατο ὑμῖν καὶ πορευθέντες λατρεύσητε θεοῖς ἑτέροις καὶ προσκυνήσητε αὐτοῖς
