Baruch 4

1She is the book of the commandments of God and the law that endures forever. All those who keep her will live, but those forsaking her will die.

αὕτη ἡ βίβλος τῶν προσταγμάτων τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ὁ νόμος ὁ ὑπάρχων εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα πάντες οἱ κρατοῦντες αὐτῆς εἰς ζωήν οἱ δὲ καταλείποντες αὐτὴν ἀποθανοῦνται

2Return, O Jacob, and take hold of her. Walk toward the radiance of the presence of her light.

ἐπιστρέφου Ιακωβ καὶ ἐπιλαβοῦ αὐτῆς διόδευσον πρὸς τὴν λάμψιν κατέναντι τοῦ φωτὸς αὐτῆς

3Do not give your glory to another or the things that are of advantage to you to a foreign nation.

μὴ δῷς ἑτέρῳ τὴν δόξαν σου καὶ τὰ συμφέροντά σοι ἔθνει ἀλλοτρίῳ

4O Israel, we are blessed, for what is pleasing to our God is known to us.

μακάριοί ἐσμεν Ισραηλ ὅτι τὰ ἀρεστὰ τῷ θεῷ ἡμῖν γνωστά ἐστιν

5Be of good courage, my people, O memorial of Israel.

θαρσεῖτε λαός μου μνημόσυνον Ισραηλ

6You were sold to the nations, not for destruction, but you were handed over to the enemies because you provoked God.

ἐπράθητε τοῖς ἔθνεσιν οὐκ εἰς ἀπώλειαν διὰ δὲ τὸ παροργίσαι ὑμᾶς τὸν θεὸν παρεδόθητε τοῖς ὑπεναντίοις

7You provoked Him who created you by sacrificing to demons and not to God.

παρωξύνατε γὰρ τὸν ποιήσαντα ὑμᾶς θύσαντες δαιμονίοις καὶ οὐ θεῷ

8You forgot the eternal God, who nursed you, and you grieved Jerusalem, which nourished you.

ἐπελάθεσθε δὲ τὸν τροφεύσαντα ὑμᾶς θεὸν αἰώνιον ἐλυπήσατε δὲ καὶ τὴν ἐκθρέψασαν ὑμᾶς Ιερουσαλημ

9For she saw the wrath coming upon you from God, and she said, 'Give heed, neighbors of Zion, God has brought upon me great sorrow,

εἶδεν γὰρ τὴν ἐπελθοῦσαν ὑμῖν ὀργὴν παρὰ τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ εἶπεν ἀκούσατε αἱ πάροικοι Σιων ἐπήγαγέν μοι ὁ θεὸς πένθος μέγα

10for I see the exile of my sons and my daughters which the Eternal One brought upon them.

εἶδον γὰρ τὴν αἰχμαλωσίαν τῶν υἱῶν μου καὶ τῶν θυγατέρων ἣν ἐπήγαγεν αὐτοῖς ὁ αἰώνιος

11With joy I raised them, but with weeping and sorrow I sent them away.

ἔθρεψα γὰρ αὐτοὺς μετ᾿ εὐφροσύνης ἐξαπέστειλα δὲ μετὰ κλαυθμοῦ καὶ πένθους

12Let no one rejoice over me, a widow and forsaken of many. I was made desolate on account of the sins of my children, because they turned away from the Law of God.

μηδεὶς ἐπιχαιρέτω μοι τῇ χήρᾳ καὶ καταλειφθείσῃ ὑπὸ πολλῶν ἠρημώθην διὰ τὰς ἁμαρτίας τῶν τέκνων μου διότι ἐξέκλιναν ἐκ νόμου θεοῦ

13And they did not know His ordinances, nor walk in the ways of the commandments of God, nor did they walk on the paths of discipline in His righteousness.

δικαιώματα δὲ αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν οὐδὲ ἐπορεύθησαν ὁδοῖς ἐντολῶν θεοῦ οὐδὲ τρίβους παιδείας ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ αὐτοῦ ἐπέβησαν

14'Let the neighbors of Zion come, and let them remember the exile of my sons and my daughters, which the Eternal One brought upon them.

ἐλθάτωσαν αἱ πάροικοι Σιων καὶ μνήσθητε τὴν αἰχμαλωσίαν τῶν υἱῶν μου καὶ θυγατέρων ἣν ἐπήγαγεν αὐτοῖς ὁ αἰώνιος

15He brought a nation from afar against them, a shameless nation speaking a strange language, which does not respect the elderly nor pity the young child.

ἐπήγαγεν γὰρ ἐπ᾿ αὐτοὺς ἔθνος μακρόθεν ἔθνος ἀναιδὲς καὶ ἀλλόγλωσσον οἳ οὐκ ᾐσχύνθησαν πρεσβύτην οὐδὲ παιδίον ἠλέησαν

16They led away the widow's beloved sons and left her who was alone destitute without daughters.

καὶ ἀπήγαγον τοὺς ἀγαπητοὺς τῆς χήρας καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων τὴν μόνην ἠρήμωσαν

17But how can I be of help to you?

ἐγὼ δὲ τί δυνατὴ βοηθῆσαι ὑμῖν

18For He who brought these calamities upon you will deliver you from the hand of your enemies.

ὁ γὰρ ἐπαγαγὼν τὰ κακὰ ὑμῖν ἐξελεῖται ὑμᾶς ἐκ χειρὸς ἐχθρῶν ὑμῶν

19Go, my children, go; for I am left desolate.

βαδίζετε τέκνα βαδίζετε ἐγὼ γὰρ κατελείφθην ἔρημος

20I have taken off the robe of peace and clothed myself in the sackcloth of my prayer. I will cry out to the Eternal One in my days.

ἐξεδυσάμην τὴν στολὴν τῆς εἰρήνης ἐνεδυσάμην δὲ σάκκον τῆς δεήσεώς μου κεκράξομαι πρὸς τὸν αἰώνιον ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις μου

21'O my children, take courage, cry out to God, and He will deliver you from the power and the hand of the enemies.

θαρσεῖτε τέκνα βοήσατε πρὸς τὸν θεόν καὶ ἐξελεῖται ὑμᾶς ἐκ δυναστείας ἐκ χειρὸς ἐχθρῶν

22For I hope upon the Eternal One to save you, and the joy from the Holy One comes to me, because mercy will soon come to you from the Eternal One, your Savior.

ἐγὼ γὰρ ἤλπισα ἐπὶ τῷ αἰωνίῳ τὴν σωτηρίαν ὑμῶν καὶ ἦλθέν μοι χαρὰ παρὰ τοῦ ἁγίου ἐπὶ τῇ ἐλεημοσύνῃ ἣ ἥξει ὑμῖν ἐν τάχει παρὰ τοῦ αἰωνίου σωτῆρος ὑμῶν

23For I sent you out with sorrow and weeping, but with joy and gladness God will restore you to me forever.

ἐξέπεμψα γὰρ ὑμᾶς μετὰ πένθους καὶ κλαυθμοῦ ἀποδώσει δέ μοι ὁ θεὸς ὑμᾶς μετὰ χαρμοσύνης καὶ εὐφροσύνης εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα

24For just as the neighbors of Zion have now seen your exile, so too they will soon see your salvation from your God, which will come upon you with great glory and the radiance of the Eternal One.

ὥσπερ γὰρ νῦν ἑωράκασιν αἱ πάροικοι Σιων τὴν ὑμετέραν αἰχμαλωσίαν οὕτως ὄψονται ἐν τάχει τὴν παρὰ τοῦ θεοῦ ὑμῶν σωτηρίαν ἣ ἐπελεύσεται ὑμῖν μετὰ δόξης μεγάλης καὶ λαμπρότητος τοῦ αἰωνίου

25'My children, endure in patience the wrath that has come upon you from God. Your enemy has pursued you diligently, but soon you will see his destruction, and you will tread upon their necks.

τέκνα μακροθυμήσατε τὴν παρὰ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐπελθοῦσαν ὑμῖν ὀργήν κατεδίωξέν σε ὁ ἐχθρός σου καὶ ὄψει αὐτοῦ τὴν ἀπώλειαν ἐν τάχει καὶ ἐπὶ τραχήλους αὐτῶν ἐπιβήσῃ

26My pampered ones have been made to walk rough roads; they were carried off like a flock seized by enemies.

οἱ τρυφεροί μου ἐπορεύθησαν ὁδοὺς τραχείας ἤρθησαν ὡς ποίμνιον ἡρπασμένον ὑπὸ ἐχθρῶν

27Take courage, my children, and cry out to God, for you will be remembered by Him who brought this upon you.

θαρσήσατε τέκνα καὶ βοήσατε πρὸς τὸν θεόν ἔσται γὰρ ὑμῶν ὑπὸ τοῦ ἐπάγοντος μνεία

28For just as you purposed to go astray from God, now having returned, seek Him with tenfold zeal.

ὥσπερ γὰρ ἐγένετο ἡ διάνοια ὑμῶν εἰς τὸ πλανηθῆναι ἀπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ δεκαπλασιάσατε ἐπιστραφέντες ζητῆσαι αὐτόν

29For the One who brought these calamities upon you will bring you everlasting joy with your salvation.'

ὁ γὰρ ἐπαγαγὼν ὑμῖν τὰ κακὰ ἐπάξει ὑμῖν τὴν αἰώνιον εὐφροσύνην μετὰ τῆς σωτηρίας ὑμῶν

30Take courage, O Jerusalem, for He who named you will comfort you.

θάρσει Ιερουσαλημ παρακαλέσει σε ὁ ὀνομάσας σε

31Wretched are those who mistreated you and rejoiced at your fall.

δείλαιοι οἱ σὲ κακώσαντες καὶ ἐπιχαρέντες τῇ σῇ πτώσει

32Wretched are the cities in which your children served as slaves. Wretched is she who took your sons.

δείλαιαι αἱ πόλεις αἷς ἐδούλευσαν τὰ τέκνα σου δειλαία ἡ δεξαμένη τοὺς υἱούς σου

33For just as she took pleasure in your ruin and rejoiced over your fall, so shall she be grieved at her own desolation.

ὥσπερ γὰρ ἐχάρη ἐπὶ τῇ σῇ πτώσει καὶ εὐφράνθη ἐπὶ τῷ πτώματί σου οὕτως λυπηθήσεται ἐπὶ τῇ ἑαυτῆς ἐρημίᾳ

34I shall take away from her the rejoicing of her great multitude, and her arrogance will become sorrow.

καὶ περιελῶ αὐτῆς τὸ ἀγαλλίαμα τῆς πολυοχλίας καὶ τὸ ἀγαυρίαμα αὐτῆς ἔσται εἰς πένθος

35For fire will come upon her from the Eternal One for many days, and she will be inhabited by demons for a long time.

πῦρ γὰρ ἐπελεύσεται αὐτῇ παρὰ τοῦ αἰωνίου εἰς ἡμέρας μακράς καὶ κατοικηθήσεται ὑπὸ δαιμονίων τὸν πλείονα χρόνον

36O Jerusalem, look eastward, and see the joy that is coming to you from God.

περίβλεψαι πρὸς ἀνατολάς Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ἰδὲ τὴν εὐφροσύνην τὴν παρὰ τοῦ θεοῦ σοι ἐρχομένην

37Behold, your sons whom you sent away are coming, gathered together from the east to the west by the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the glory of God.

ἰδοὺ ἔρχονται οἱ υἱοί σου οὓς ἐξαπέστειλας ἔρχονται συνηγμένοι ἀπ᾿ ἀνατολῶν ἕως δυσμῶν τῷ ῥήματι τοῦ ἁγίου χαίροντες τῇ τοῦ θεοῦ δόξῃ
