Amos 3

1O house of Israel, hear this word the Lord has spoken against you, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

ἀκούσατε τὸν λόγον τοῦτον ὃν ἐλάλησεν κύριος ἐφ᾿ ὑμᾶς οἶκος Ισραηλ καὶ κατὰ πάσης φυλῆς ἧς ἀνήγαγον ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου λέγων

2'Out of all the families of the earth, I have especially known you. Therefore I shall exact vengeance upon you for all your sins.

πλὴν ὑμᾶς ἔγνων ἐκ πασῶν φυλῶν τῆς γῆς διὰ τοῦτο ἐκδικήσω ἐφ᾿ ὑμᾶς πάσας τὰς ἁμαρτίας ὑμῶν

3If two people walk together, will each one not come to know the other?

εἰ πορεύσονται δύο ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ καθόλου ἐὰν μὴ γνωρίσωσιν ἑαυτούς

4Will a lion roar from his lair in the forest if he has no prey? Will a lion's whelp cry out from his den if he has nothing?

εἰ ἐρεύξεται λέων ἐκ τοῦ δρυμοῦ αὐτοῦ θήραν οὐκ ἔχων εἰ δώσει σκύμνος φωνὴν αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῆς μάνδρας αὐτοῦ καθόλου ἐὰν μὴ ἁρπάσῃ τι

5Will a bird fall to the earth without a fowler? Will a snare be sprung if it has caught nothing?

εἰ πεσεῖται ὄρνεον ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ἄνευ ἰξευτοῦ εἰ σχασθήσεται παγὶς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἄνευ τοῦ συλλαβεῖν τι

6If a trumpet is sounded in a city, will not the people be alarmed? If evil should be in a city, has not the Lord brought it?

εἰ φωνήσει σάλπιγξ ἐν πόλει καὶ λαὸς οὐ πτοηθήσεται εἰ ἔσται κακία ἐν πόλει ἣν κύριος οὐκ ἐποίησεν

7For the Lord God does nothing unless He reveals instruction to His servants the prophets.

διότι οὐ μὴ ποιήσῃ κύριος ὁ θεὸς πρᾶγμα ἐὰν μὴ ἀποκαλύψῃ παιδείαν αὐτοῦ πρὸς τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ τοὺς προφήτας

8A lion shall roar, and who will not fear? The Lord God speaks, and who will not prophesy?

λέων ἐρεύξεται καὶ τίς οὐ φοβηθήσεται κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἐλάλησεν καὶ τίς οὐ προφητεύσει

9'Proclaim it in the regions among the Assyrians and to the lands of Egypt, and say, 'Gather yourself to the mountains of Samaria, and behold the many remarkable things in her midst and the oppression that is within her.

ἀπαγγείλατε χώραις ἐν Ἀσσυρίοις καὶ ἐπὶ τὰς χώρας τῆς Αἰγύπτου καὶ εἴπατε συνάχθητε ἐπὶ τὸ ὄρος Σαμαρείας καὶ ἴδετε θαυμαστὰ πολλὰ ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν καταδυναστείαν τὴν ἐν αὐτῇ

10She does not know the things that will come against her,' says the Lord, 'she stores up injustice and misery in her lands.' '

καὶ οὐκ ἔγνω ἃ ἔσται ἐναντίον αὐτῆς λέγει κύριος οἱ θησαυρίζοντες ἀδικίαν καὶ ταλαιπωρίαν ἐν ταῖς χώραις αὐτῶν

11Therefore thus says the Lord God: 'O Tyre, your land round about you shall be made desolate, and your strength shall be sapped from you, and your lands shall be plundered.'

διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει κύριος ὁ θεός Τύρος κυκλόθεν ἡ γῆ σου ἐρημωθήσεται καὶ κατάξει ἐκ σοῦ ἰσχύν σου καὶ διαρπαγήσονται αἱ χῶραί σου

12Thus says the Lord: 'As when a shepherd takes two legs or a piece of an ear out of the mouth of a lion, so shall the sons of Israel be taken out who dwell in Samaria in the presence of a foreign people, and in Damascus.

τάδε λέγει κύριος ὃν τρόπον ὅταν ἐκσπάσῃ ὁ ποιμὴν ἐκ στόματος τοῦ λέοντος δύο σκέλη ἢ λοβὸν ὠτίου οὕτως ἐκσπασθήσονται οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐν Σαμαρείᾳ κατέναντι φυλῆς καὶ ἐν Δαμασκῷ ἱερεῖς

13'Hear, O priests, and testify against the house of Jacob,' says the Lord God Almighty,

ἀκούσατε καὶ ἐπιμαρτύρασθε τῷ οἴκῳ Ιακωβ λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὁ παντοκράτωρ

14'for in the day I exact vengeance against Israel for their sins, I shall also visit destruction on the altars of Bethel and tear down the horns of the altar, and they will fall to the ground.

διότι ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ὅταν ἐκδικῶ ἀσεβείας τοῦ Ισραηλ ἐπ᾿ αὐτόν καὶ ἐκδικήσω ἐπὶ τὰ θυσιαστήρια Βαιθηλ καὶ κατασκαφήσεται τὰ κέρατα τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου καὶ πεσοῦνται ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν

15I will demolish and knock down the turreted house upon the summer house, and I shall destroy the ivory houses along with many other houses as well,' says the Lord.

συγχεῶ καὶ πατάξω τὸν οἶκον τὸν περίπτερον ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον τὸν θερινόν καὶ ἀπολοῦνται οἶκοι ἐλεφάντινοι καὶ προστεθήσονται οἶκοι ἕτεροι πολλοί λέγει κύριος
