Lamentations 5

1'O Lord, remember what happened to us; Look upon us with favor And see our disgrace.

μνήσθητι κύριε ὅ τι ἐγενήθη ἡμῖν ἐπίβλεψον καὶ ἰδὲ τὸν ὀνειδισμὸν ἡμῶν

2Our inheritance has been turned over to foreigners, And our homes to strangers.

κληρονομία ἡμῶν μετεστράφη ἀλλοτρίοις οἱ οἶκοι ἡμῶν ξένοις

3We have become orphans and have no father; Our mothers are as widows.

ὀρφανοὶ ἐγενήθημεν οὐχ ὑπάρχει πατήρ μητέρες ἡμῶν ὡς αἱ χῆραι

4'We pay for the water we drink, And our wood comes at a price.

ἐξ ἡμερῶν ἡμῶν ξύλα ἡμῶν ἐν ἀλλάγματι ἦλθεν

5We are pursued at our heels; We have labored; We have no rest.

ἐπὶ τὸν τράχηλον ἡμῶν ἐδιώχθημεν ἐκοπιάσαμεν οὐκ ἀνεπαύθημεν

6Egypt gave us a hand, Assyria to their satisfaction.

Αἴγυπτος ἔδωκεν χεῖρα Ασσουρ εἰς πλησμονὴν αὐτῶν

7'Our fathers sinned and are no more; We suffered from their lawless actions.

οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν ἥμαρτον οὐχ ὑπάρχουσιν ἡμεῖς τὰ ἀνομήματα αὐτῶν ὑπέσχομεν

8Servants rule over us; There is no one to redeem us from their hand.

δοῦλοι ἐκυρίευσαν ἡμῶν λυτρούμενος οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ τῆς χειρὸς αὐτῶν

9We will bring in our bread At the risk of our lives From the presence of the sword in the desert.

ἐν ταῖς ψυχαῖς ἡμῶν εἰσοίσομεν ἄρτον ἡμῶν ἀπὸ προσώπου ῥομφαίας τῆς ἐρήμου

10'Our skin has became blackened as an oven. They are shriveled up from the stormy wind of famine.

τὸ δέρμα ἡμῶν ὡς κλίβανος ἐπελειώθη συνεσπάσθησαν ἀπὸ προσώπου καταιγίδων λιμοῦ

11They humbled the women in Zion, The virgins in the cities of Judah.

γυναῖκας ἐν Σιων ἐταπείνωσαν παρθένους ἐν πόλεσιν Ιουδα

12Princes were hung up by their hands, And elders were not honored.

ἄρχοντες ἐν χερσὶν αὐτῶν ἐκρεμάσθησαν πρεσβύτεροι οὐκ ἐδοξάσθησαν

13The chosen men took up weeping, And the young men weakened under the loads of wood.

ἐκλεκτοὶ κλαυθμὸν ἀνέλαβον καὶ νεανίσκοι ἐν ξύλῳ ἠσθένησαν

14Elders also ceased to gather at the gate; The chosen men ceased to sing their psalms.

καὶ πρεσβῦται ἀπὸ πύλης κατέπαυσαν ἐκλεκτοὶ ἐκ ψαλμῶν αὐτῶν κατέπαυσαν

15'The joy of our heart has ceased; Our dance has turned into mourning.

κατέλυσεν χαρὰ καρδίας ἡμῶν ἐστράφη εἰς πένθος ὁ χορὸς ἡμῶν

16The crown fell from our head; Woe to us, because we sinned!

ἔπεσεν ὁ στέφανος τῆς κεφαλῆς ἡμῶν οὐαὶ δὴ ἡμῖν ὅτι ἡμάρτομεν

17Because of this, our heart has become painful; Because of this, our eyes have remained in darkness.

περὶ τούτου ἐγενήθη ὀδυνηρὰ ἡ καρδία ἡμῶν περὶ τούτου ἐσκότασαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ ἡμῶν

18On Mount Zion, because it is desolate, Foxes pass through it.

ἐπ᾿ ὄρος Σιων ὅτι ἠφανίσθη ἀλώπεκες διῆλθον ἐν αὐτῇ

19'But You, O Lord, shall dwell forever, Your throne from generation to generation.

σὺ δέ κύριε εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα κατοικήσεις ὁ θρόνος σου εἰς γενεὰν καὶ γενεάν

20Why will You utterly forget us? Will You forsake us for so long a time?

ἵνα τί εἰς νεῖκος ἐπιλήσῃ ἡμῶν καταλείψεις ἡμᾶς εἰς μακρότητα ἡμερῶν

21Turn us back to You, O Lord, And we shall be converted; Renew our days as before.

ἐπίστρεψον ἡμᾶς κύριε πρὸς σέ καὶ ἐπιστραφησόμεθα καὶ ἀνακαίνισον ἡμέρας ἡμῶν καθὼς ἔμπροσθεν

22For You have indeed rejected us, And are exceedingly angry with us.'

ὅτι ἀπωθούμενος ἀπώσω ἡμᾶς ὠργίσθης ἐφ᾿ ἡμᾶς ἕως σφόδρα
