1 Corinthians 1:26–29
26For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.
27But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;
28and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,
29that no flesh should glory in His presence.
Epistle
1 Corinthians 4:17–5:5
17For this reason I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every church.
18Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you.
19But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord wills, and I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power.
20For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.
21What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?
1It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles—that a man has his father's wife!
2And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you.
3For I indeed, as absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged (as though I were present) him who has so done this deed.
4In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
5deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
Gospel
John 8:21–30
21Then Jesus said to them again, 'I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come.'
22So the Jews said, 'Will He kill Himself, because He says, 'Where I go you cannot come'?'
23And He said to them, 'You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
24Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.'
25Then they said to Him, 'Who are You?'
26And Jesus said to them, 'Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning. I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him.'
27They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father.
28Then Jesus said to them, 'When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.
29And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.'
30As He spoke these words, many believed in Him.
Gospel
Matthew 24:1–13
1Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple.
2And Jesus said to them, 'Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.'
3Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, 'Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?'
4And Jesus answered and said to them: 'Take heed that no one deceives you.
5For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many.
6And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.
8All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9'Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake.
10And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
11Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.
12And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.
13But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
