Appointed readings

4 passages

Epistle

1 Timothy 1:1–7

Open Reader ↗

1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope,

2To Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.

3As I urged you when I went into Macedonia—remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

4nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith.

5Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith,

6from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk,

7desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm.

Epistle

Galatians 5:22–6:2

Open Reader ↗

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

24And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

26Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

1Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.

2Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Gospel

Luke 17:20–25

Open Reader ↗

20Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, 'The kingdom of God does not come with observation;

21nor will they say, 'See here!' or 'See there!' For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.'

22Then He said to the disciples, 'The days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.

23And they will say to you, 'Look here!' or 'Look there!' Do not go after them or follow them.

24For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day.

25But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

Gospel

Matthew 11:27–30

Open Reader ↗

27All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.

28Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

30For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.'
