10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

15and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

3We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,

4since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all the saints;

5because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel,

6which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth;

1Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

2And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.

3Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, 'If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.'

4But He answered and said, 'It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.' '

5Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple,

6and said to Him, 'If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: 'He shall give His angels charge over you,'

7and, 'In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.' ' Jesus said to him, 'It is written again, 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.' '

8Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

9And he said to Him, 'All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.'

10Then Jesus said to him, 'Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.' '

11Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

1Now it happened, as He went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath, that they watched Him closely.

2And behold, there was a certain man before Him who had dropsy.

3And Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, 'Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?'

4But they kept silent. And He took him and healed him, and let him go.

5Then He answered them, saying, 'Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?'

6And they could not answer Him regarding these things.

7So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the best places, saying to them:

8'When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the best place, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him;

9and he who invited you and him come and say to you, 'Give place to this man,' and then you begin with shame to take the lowest place.

10But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, 'Friend, go up higher.' Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you.

11For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.'
